The commitment ceremonies on Married at First Sight are always full of suspense and big emotions, as the couples reflect on their relationships so far before revealing if they are prepared to spend another week together.
For some couples, the decision is a no-brainer while for others it’s a tad more excruciating. Complicating matters is the fact that if one half of the pairing chooses to leave but the other wants to stay, the spouse who was ready to bounce must endure another seven days of potentially being miserable in the hopes that things can turn around.
With the third commitment ceremony done and dusted, a favourite couple gone and some newer twosomes in the mix, here’s where each of the MAFS Australia 2021 couples stand.
Kerry and Johnny
They’re still adorable and Johnny and Kerry are also still very much in the game.
DECISION: STAY
Georgia and Liam
These two have only known each other for four weeks but they say that feel they’ve known each other for two years and are absolutely smitten with one another. We love to see it — they’re staying.
DECISION: STAY
Patrick and Belinda
Patrick and Belinda, might be well on the path to becoming Australia’s newest favourite couple and their relationship just keeps going from strength to strength — especially seeing as the pair have added some sexual intimacy to the mix.
Of course, these two cuties are not going anywhere and it seemed like Belinda is starting to fall for her sweet hubby, just as he has fallen for her. Too cute.
DECISION: STAY
Booka and Brett
Booka and Brett seemed like a match made in heaven so it was a bit of a surprise to see their relationship take a turn for the worse. After spending some time apart and then rekindling a slight spark at the relationship retreat, these two cool cats mutually decided to leave as great mates, so we’ll just be over here secretly waiting for a romantic reconciliation.
DECISION: LEAVE (sob!)
Alana and Jason
Alana and Jason had seemed to lose their spark…until Alana decided to cook her husband up a steak while wearing some sexy lingerie. Unfortunately, Alana forgot the cardinal rule that information relayed to you by a spouse should always remain confidential which threw a spanner in the works. However, after an emotional commitment ceremony confession about sabotaging relationships, the marriage has lived to see another day.
DECISION: STAY
Rebecca and Jake
Beck and Jake have probably been the most unpredictable couple of the experiment and you’d be forgiven for having whiplash when it comes to where they currently stand. This week, Beck chose to leave yet again, but Jake wanted to stay so they’re going to the Super Bowl — I mean, to the final episode.
DECISION: STAY
Bryce and Melissa
Bryce and Melissa have been more emotionally draining to watch than an episode of The Handmaids Tale but apparently, they do well in dramatic situations (maybe they even thrive on them, who knows at this point?.)
Anyway, seeing as it’s common knowledge that they are still together in real life it should come as no surprise that they decided to stay another week and well, good luck to them.
DECISION: STAY.
Who Has Already Left the Experiment?
Jaimie and Chris
The “secret” couple from very different backgrounds were doomed from the minute Jaimie laid eyes on her new husband, and later declared him to have a “Queensland” haircut — whatever that is. These two were so horribly mismatched that they couldn’t even wait for the next commitment ceremony before leaving the experiment and, well, yay.
DECISION: LEAVE IMMEDIATELY
Joanne and James
Joanne and James have had an absolute rollercoaster of a time with James’ joke at the second commitment ceremony that he was in love with Alessandra going down like a lead balloon (seriously dude, so not cool.) Things have just gone from bad to worse with these two as James has stayed out all night, called poor Belinda “frigid” and announced at the dinner party that he was single. So, no surprises here that both Jo and James expressed their desire to get the hell out of there.
DECISION: LEAVE
Beth and Russell
Beth and Russell have been pretty straightforward with each other that they are better off as just mates and have struggled to connect on a deeper level. They gave it a red hot crack, but ultimately, these two were just not meant to be.
DECISION: LEAVE
Coco and Sam
Coco and Sam agreed early on that they were just going to be friends and worked hard to get to a good place as mates. Of course, Coco has made it clear that she has feelings for Cam, so Sam voted to leave (much to Bryce’s delight) and so did Coco.
DECISION: LEAVE
Samantha and Cameron
It should come as no surprise that Sam and Cam both decided to leave the experiment, given that Cam has struggled to find a connection with Sam and has admitted to having feelings for Coco instead.
DECISION: LEAVE
