“If I Can Do It, Anyone Can”: ‘The Summit’ Winner Isaac Wants to Inspire Others

The Summit Australia 2023 finale winner Isaac.

If you tuned into The Summit Australia 2023 finale last night, then you know there were three winners. With $490,000 left of the prize, Isaac Compton, Lulu Hawton, and Brooke Kilowsky celebrated the massive accomplishment with the assumption that the prize would be split evenly amongst them. Of course, that wasn’t the case. The eliminated Trekkers were the ones to divvy up the prize, and in the end, handed Isaac the bulk of the prize, a whopping $250,000. But what is Isaac from The Summit doing now?

Chatting to The Latch on the morning after The Summit Australia 2023 finale, Isaac talked us through the trek from start to finish, what he learned along the way, and what’s next for him.

Why Issac Applied for The Summit

Issac said that he applied for The Summit because he loves New Zealand and he wanted to escape his “own little bubble and try something new.”

“I’ve only ever applied for one other TV show,” Issac said, “and I thought I’d give this one a crack!”

The other series that Issac applied for was Australian Idol. But this was between 12 and 15 years ago.

I made it nowhere near the end,” Isaac said.

“Turns out I’m just a nice guy, I’m not actually that good of a singer!” he joked, laughing.

The Challenges and Rewards of The Summit

When discussing how one can prepare for The Summit, Issac got a tad vulnerable.

“Mate, there is nothing I could’ve done to prepare for the emotion of that!” he exclaimed. “You know, climbing up a mountain, you know it’s going to be physically hard, but you don’t think about the emotional or mental part of it.”

Issac went on to say that while the prize money was great and certainly made the trek worth it, getting over his fear of heights was also rewarding.

“I had a massive fear of heights going into the show,” he said. “I think it was Day nine, and we climbed up that 400 metre cliff face. We scaled up that, and I remember getting to the top of that. Along that climb, my fear just left me.”

Issac is hoping that moments such as this one inspire The Summit’s audience. He wants everyone to know that they can do better and bigger things than they think.

“I’m slow, I’m not the fittest person, I’m just your everyday, average Joe, but if I can do it, you can do it. All you need to do is put on your little yellow cap, your hiking boots, and put one foot in front of the other.”

What Is Isaac from The Summit Doing Now?

Issac is hoping to use the momentum from winning The Summit to break into the entertainment landscape.

“I’d love to get on TV again, I’d love to do radio, to do more media,” he said.

“I’d love to do keynote speaking, you know, try to inspire other people, especially the Indigenous community.”

As a First Nations person, Issac also wants to become a role model for First Nations kids. He believes that his story of success might inspire them to dream bigger and bolder.

“I’m a firm believer in that you can’t be what you can’t see — we’ve got sports stars and all that there, and that’s great, but I’d love to fill up those other spaces for young Blak kids, to be able to look up and go ‘oh look! He looks like me, I can do that too! If he can do it, I can do it’,” he reiterated. “That’s one thing that I’d like to be able to do, moving on from The Summit.”

As for whether we’ll see him on reality TV again?

Oh, I’d love to do Survivor! Oh my goodness, I’d be so sneaky!” he said.
