It’s back, baby! That’s right, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is back for Season 9, and as usual, it’s already bringing the laughs and chaos we’ve come to love and expect.
After two seasons of filming in northern New South Wales due to COVID, the borders are open once again, which means I’m a Celeb is back in South Africa, and coming to us live from the jungle.
Hosts Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown are also back, and this season, the premise is simple: make it fun, make it funny, make it a good time for all involved — well, except the celebs, maybe. Having snakes dumped on you or being challenged to ingest a warthog testicle doesn’t sound like much fun to us, to be honest, but look, they knew what they were getting themselves into, right?!
But if you’ve tuned in for all the fun and found yourself thinking “sorry, who is that?” — you’re not alone. Luckily, we’ve got all the goss on who these celebs are, what they’re known for, where you’ve seen them before, and what charity they’re competing for.
One of the celebs who’s made her way to the jungle for the chance to take out the win this season is actress Debra Lawrance, who’s competing for Ovarian Cancer Australia.

Who Is Debra Lawrance?
Debra Lawrance is a beloved Australian actress, and a force to be reckoned with.
Debra graduated from the prestigious NIDA in 1977, alongside some very wellknown classmates, like Mel Gibson and Judy Davis. Since then, she’s conquered the stage, the silver screen, and the small screen with her talent and unwavering passion for the craft.
Some of Debra’s best known roles include the fierce and nurturing foster mother Pippa on Home and Away, the hilarious and loveable Rose on Please Like Me, and the gutsy and determined Pat in The Fast Lane.
In 2015, Debra was awarded the AACTA Award for Best Performance in a Television Comedy, as well as the 2017 Logie Award for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress, for her role in Please Like Me. But those aren’t the only awards she’s won.
Debra also flexed her culinary skills on Hell’s Kitchen Australia, and even took home the crown!
On the big screen, Debra has wowed audiences with her performances in films like Two Brothers Running and Evil Angels (aka A Cry in the Dark). And if you’re lucky enough to catch her on stage, you might see her channeling her inner wizard as Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child or spreading holiday cheer as The Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol.
Debra Lawrance’s Personal Life
Debra Lawrance is happily married to her Home and Away co-star Dennis Coard. They tied the knot back in 1992, and share two beautiful children, Grace and William.
When she’s not out in the jungle, Debra resides in the countryside outside of Melbourne, soaking up the peace and serenity of rural life.

What Does Ovarian Cancer Australia Do?
Ovarian Cancer Australia aims to improve the quality of life and outcomes for people living with ovarian cancer, as well as reduce the incidence and impact of the disease in the community.
Ovarian Cancer Australia provides a range of support services, including a helpline, support groups, and access to specialist nurses. They also advocate for increased funding for research and better access to treatment options.
Why Did Debra Lawrance Choose Ovarian Cancer Australia?
“My charity is Ovarian Cancer Australia. I’ve been involved with them for the last six years,” Debra said on the show. “We need to raise awareness and to support research which is really important to Ovarian Cancer Australia. It’s very hard to detect. It only has about a 48% survival rate.”
Debra told the group that she lost a close friend to ovarian cancer seven years ago. The cancer was already at stage four when she was diagnosed, and “she had no symptoms whatsoever” before then. After a five year battle, Debra’s friend passed away.
“To say goodbye to a friend, is one of the most difficult things I’ve had to do,” Debra said.
