‘I’m a Celeb’ 2023: Will Anna Polyviou Taste Sweet, Sweet Victory?

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! S9 - Anna Polyviou

It’s back, baby! That’s right, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is back for Season 9, and as usual, it’s already bringing the laughs and chaos we’ve come to love and expect.

After two seasons of filming in northern New South Wales due to COVID, the borders are open once again, which means I’m a Celeb is back in South Africa, and coming to us live from the jungle.

Hosts Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown are also back, and this season, the premise is simple: make it fun, make it funny, make it a good time for all involved — well, except the celebs, maybe. Having snakes dumped on you or being challenged to ingest a warthog testicle doesn’t sound like much fun to us, to be honest, but look, they knew what they were getting themselves into, right?!

But if you’ve tuned in for all the fun and found yourself thinking “sorry, who is that?” — you’re not alone. Luckily, we’ve got all the goss on who these celebs are, what they’re known for, where you’ve seen them before, and what charity they’re competing for.

One of the celebs who’s made her way to the jungle for the chance to take out the win this season is celebrity chef Anna Polyviou, who is competing for Dress for Success Sydney.

Who Is Anna Polyviou?

Anna Polyviou is a celebrity chef. She’s all about pushing the boundaries of what food can do in order to wow her customers. To her, food isn’t just about going from hungry to full, it’s all about the journey.

Anna is all about creating a dining experience that is magical and inspiring. But don’t get it twisted — this isn’t The Menu. Most of all, she just wants people to have fun.

After beginning her career at the Sofitel Hotel in Mebourne, Anna soon found herself awarded Best Apprentice in Victoria. The prize? A scholarship to work anywhere in the world to further her cooking career. No big deal, right?

The scholarship found Anna jet-setting off to London. Soon, she began working at Claridge’s Hotel, and from there, it’s been a string of achievements that would impress anyone.

As she worked on her skills, Anna won the Nadell Trophy for Dessert of the Year, as well as the Culinary Academy Award of Excellence for pastry. This led to her to Paris, where she worked under Chef Pierre Herme.

With her awards and experience, Anna returned to Australia to take on the role of Creative Director of Pastry at the Shangri-La Hotel. She was also recruited to become one of MasterChef Australia‘s regular guest judges. In fact, she’s become a regular on the  Aussie TV scene in general, and made her way into our hearts through her appearances on Family Food Fight, Snack Masters, The Cook Up with Adam Liaw, Everyday Gourmet, Studio 10, My Market Kitchen, House of Wellness, The Living Room, and Sunrise.

Anna is also a published author, with her first cookbook, Sweet Street, being released in May 2018, and second cookbook, Kids’ Corner, being released in November 2019.

As for how she’ll fare in the jungle? Well, she’s been camping before, and according to a press statement, “hated it”. But you never know! Anna is all about exceeding expectations, so she might be ready to wow us all.

What Does Dress for Success Sydney Do?

Anna is competing for Dress for Success Sydney. The charity is all about empowering disadvantaged women in NSW by helping to improve their employment prospects.

They help cisgender and transgender women, as well as non-binary people who feel comfortable in women’s spaces, by providing resources and support programs which will help them in their search for employment.

It’s a free of charge charity that provides professional clothing for job interviews, as well as a support network, coaching and career development tools.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! airs at 7.30pm, Sunday – Thursdays, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
