The 2023 Emmy Award nominations are here, and unsurprisingly, it’s a showdown for HBO, with Succession, The Last of Us and The White Lotus: Sicily taking up plenty of room at the table. But with the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, and a possible Screen Actors Guild strike looming large over Hollywood, the road to the 2023 Emmys has never looked so steep.
The nominations were released on Wednesday, July 12 in the US, and the list is — as one would expect — stacked. But whether we’ll get to see a live broadcast of the Emmy Awards remains to be seen. While the Tony Awards managed to maintain their “the show must go on” energy and make it through the show with no writers earlier this year, the Emmy Awards will be a lot harder to pull off. It’s one thing to have no writers, but if the SAG strike moves forward, there will be no actors in attendance to receive their awards, either.
With so many powerhouse nominations this year, it would certainly be a shame if there wasn’t a broadcast ceremony for the Emmys this year. For its final season, Succession was honoured with 27 nods — the most for any series. HBO also took the runner-up spot, with The Last of Us scoring 24 nominations. Aside from the HBO showdown, other major Emmy Award players for 2023 include The Bear, Beef and Ted Lasso.
Without further ado, here’s the complete list of nominees.
