With the Australian Idol 2023 live rounds recently kicking off, some unlucky hopefuls were sent packing while others were saved by the judges. And with the destinies of these musically gifted 15-to-28-year-olds in the hands of Australian voters, there’s sure to be more dreams hanging in the balance over the coming weeks.
This reboot season of Idol so far has had its fair share of highs and lows. From the audition rounds to the naming of the Top 12, celebrity judges; Kyle Sandilands, Amy Shark, Meghan Trainor and, Harry Connick Jr. have had to make some harsh albeit justified calls. And it’s no question that that’s left the young contestants battling with the stresses of memorising music and lyrics on top of potentially seeing a short-lived Idol journey. However, that hasn’t stopped fans around the nation from flooding their comments on social media and giving them the confidence they need to step up and performance.
If you’ve been tuning in you’ve already seen the amazing rendition of Lady Gaga’s Shallow by 27-year-old travel agent, Noora. Or perhaps Harry Hayden’s version of Whitney Houston classic, How Will I Know. With the amount of talent flowing through the remaining contestants, this year’s grand finale is likely going to be a close call.
Sadly, we can expect more eliminations over the next few weeks with the continuation of public voting. But on the bright side — here’s everyone who the judges have saved in the live rounds Australia Idol thus far and the songs they sang to get there;
Live Rounds Week 1
Ben Sheehy, 24 (QLD)
River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner
Noora H, 27 (NSW)
I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston
