Here’s What We Know About the ‘Australian Idol’ Premiere Date

Picture this: It’s 2003, and you’re sitting in front of the TV, waiting in anticipation to see who will be crowned the winner of Australian Idol.

Will it be Guy Sebastian? Or will Shannon Noll take home the title?

The grand finale is taking place at the Opera House, and it’s all anyone can talk about. As host Osher Günsberg (back then known as Andrew G) reads Guy’s name, the crowd — and country — goes wild.

Either you were ecstatic or just downright disappointed. If you were the latter, then you’re probably still reeling over Nollsy’s loss.

Well, 19(!) years after the first season premiered, Australian Idol is making a comeback, so get ready to feel all the feelings!

Before The Voice and Australia’s Got Talent, there was Idol, and it was the show that had it all.

From embarrassing auditions (which, let’s be honest, was the best part) to talented contestants, Idol was the show of the early 2000s.

It’s responsible for discovering some of Australia’s best, including Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll, Stan Walker and Casey Donovan.

Overseas, Idol is the reason Kelly Rowland and Carrie Underwood are household names.

But will the upcoming season be able to meet everyone’s expectations? Channel 7 recently dropped a preview of what’s to come, and let’s say, it’s everything we wanted and more.

Not only did we get to meet a few of the contestants as they performed “Diamonds” by Rihanna, but we got a glimpse of the new judging panel featuring Kyle Sandilands, Meghan Trainor, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr.

“We’re going to every corner of the country to find your next Australian Idol,” said Shark.

With Channel 7 taking the reins from Network Ten, former host Osher will now be replaced by Idol’s very own Ricki-Lee Coulter and TV personality Scott Tweedie.

We know you’re most likely eager to find out when the show premieres, and here’s your answer: Sometime in 2023.

Channel 7 has been drip-feeding info, first announcing the judges, then the hosts and now, dropping the first trailer.

Unfortunately, they’ve yet to tell us exactly when the competition will be starting, but we know it’s sometime next year.

Watch this space because we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
