Since publishing this story, Network Ten has announced the death of MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo on April 30, 2023. MasterChef Australia Secrets and Surprises will now premiere on Sunday, May 7, with the full support of Zonfrillo’s family.
Australia’s most wholesome cooking show, MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises, is finally here. A whole new season brings us new delicious dishes, wild challenges and more, but first, we need to put faces to the names of the MasterChef Australia 2023 cast.
Meet Rue Mupedzi, a 29-year-old oral health therapist based in Western Australia, who has set her sights on culinary greatness.
Rue’s Love for Cooking
Rue’s love for food stems from her Zimbabwean background, where food brings people together. She was taught the basics of cooking by her mother and has since honed her skills through cookbooks, YouTube videos, and social media content.
While Rue is comfortable cooking savoury dishes, desserts are her forte, and she is determined to refine her skills further. She is also conscious that sometimes, simplicity is the key to a winning dish.
Rue brings a calm and positive presence to the MasterChef kitchen, and is excited to learn from the judges and guest chefs.
Her dream is to open her own dessert bar, and she knows that the experience and knowledge she gains on the show will be invaluable in achieving that goal.

Rue’s Journey to MasterChef Australia 2023
Rue’s journey to MasterChef began in 2014 when she had her first fine-dining experience in Sydney. It opened her eyes to a whole new world of food, and she began to cook more at home, inspired by the dishes she ate in restaurants.
In 2021, Rue took a break from her career in dentistry to pursue her passion for the kitchen, launching her own macaroon business. Her perseverance and dedication paid off, as it took her 10 months of trial and error to perfect her recipe.
With her infectious smile and passion for food, Rue is sure to make a lasting impression on MasterChef and beyond.
MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises premieres Sunday, May 7 at 7.30pm, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
