I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! has come to an end for the year, and Australia has crowned Liz Ellis Queen of the Jungle.
“Finally I’m a queen!” Liz joked as she accepted her crown, adding, “I will so lord this over everybody!”
As Liz ascended the throne and the confetti canons fired, hosts Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown hugged. It was an especially poignant moment, as this will be Chris’ last season hosting I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Following two seasons filmed in northern New South Wales amid COVID restrictions, 2023 marked the return of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! to South Africa, with the show airing live from the jungle.
Over the season, we watched on as our celebs tackled chaotic challenges, roughed it around camp, and of course, shared many laughs and heartwarming moments together.
But tonight, it all came down to our final three: Aesha Scott, Harry Garside and Liz Ellis.
Each celeb brought a lot to the competition, but as we all know, there can only be one winner, and tonight, Australia chose Liz Ellis to reign over the jungle for 2023, and for the charity of their choice to receive a $100,000 donation.
Liz’s Journey to Victory
Liz came into the jungle as a certified netball legend, ready to give it her best shot in the competition.
“I have a propensity to rush into things without fully thinking them through,” she admitted in a press statement.
Quickly, Liz became a fan favourite, but she never anticipated that she could take home the win.
“I’ve never come in here and thought of myself as eventually being the Queen of the Jungle,” Liz said on the show last week. “I was here to be in the team and contribute to all of us having a really good time and having heaps of fun.
“I seriously expected to be gone [in the] first week, so to be in the final is an absolute thrill! Thank you, Australia.”
Ahead of the Grand Finale, Liz’s team posted a video to Instagram full of highlights from the athlete’s time on the show.
“Thank you all so much for the love and support for Liz and for @sharethedignityaustralia across this whole bonkers @imacelebrityau escapade,” her team wrote. “If you haven’t voted today, do it. Do it! And we’ll see you on the couch tonight. #LizHQ”
Why Liz Chose Share the Dignity
Liz was competing on the show for Share the Dignity. She revealed on the show that the charity first piqued her interest after she saw a “dignity vending machine” in the bathroom of her local library.
“I found out about it and the charity is called Share the Dignity and it works to provide period products to women who are fleeing domestic violence, who are homeless, who are living in poverty, who are living on the breadline,” Liz explained. “It just hit me that there will be so many women who would have to make the choice whether to buy period products or whether to buy food to put on the table.
“I’ve got a little girl and I’d hate for her to be in that position.”
Congratulations, Liz!
