In a big win for not only our wallets, but also the planet, IKEA’s second-hand furniture and homewares platform As-Is is now online. The online shopping portal will let customers browse and reserve second-hand IKEA pieces, to then pick up at the selected location.
The As-Is Online section of the website will include discontinued items and ex-showroom display items, as well as pre-loved products returned through the Swedish giant’s Buy Back service. Shoppers can expect up to 75% off original products’ prices, with deals varying store to store.
A quick glance at the Tempe, NSW As-Is Online offering includes a bookcase, down to $49 from $69, a swivel chair, down to $130 from $199 and a three-seat sofa-bed for $599.40 from $999.
All items are thoroughly inspected to ensure functionality and safety, and you’ll be able to learn about the condition of the product through uploaded photos and detailed info in the ‘Defect Image’.

Once you’ve selected the product you want online, you can then visit the selected store to complete the purchased and collect your ‘new’ furniture or homewares from the As-Is area, located just before the checkouts. This also allows you to assess its condition before taking it home. If you do buy it and end up changing your mind, you can still return it within 365 days.
“Our new As-Is Online platform gives our customers an easy way to shop more sustainably and find the perfect home furnishing products to make their lives at home better,” says Lachlan Mitchell, Product Recovery Leader at IKEA Australia.
“With the cost of living continuously rising, affordability is top of mind for Australians. As-Is Online could not come at a better time for customers to get a great deal on second-life items, with prices ranging from 20% – 75% off the original product’s price.”
Part of IKEA’s goal to become climate positive by 2030, As-Is Online will give usable items a second home, thereby minimising unnecessary waste and environmental impact.
Queensland customers were the first to trial the new shopping experience back in April, but it’s now available at all IKEA Australia stores.

“We’ve seen our customers’ interest in the second-hand market grow exponentially over the last few years, and in particular, a strong demand for pre-loved IKEA items.” Mitchell had said at the limit.
“As-Is Online is an extension of the already established As-Is area in every store, where shoppers can also find pre-loved products from our Buy Back service which launched in 2019. We hope it allows our customers live more sustainably and have better everyday lives within the limits of our planet.”
