Step aside, Met Gala. The massive global event we’re now focused on is Apple’s new product showcase.
Hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook and held on Tuesday, September 14 in an empty auditorium in the US, the streamed event saw the announcement of a slew of new products.
Among the new hardware unveilings are a new iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7, both with better battery life, and a long-awaited update to the humble iPad. Interestingly, contrary to some predictions, no new hardware update to AirPod headphones was mentioned.
Here’s a breakdown of all the new hardware available now and coming to Apple:
New iPhone
Models: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, available in five colours — pink, blue, midnight, starlight and red.
Hardware update highlights: The new iPhones will have a longer battery life (1.5-2.5 hours longer, depending on the model), a camera with a new ‘cinematic mode’ that can hold focus on a moving object and ‘sensor-shift optical image stabilisation’ that’ll give you better quality photos in low-light, brighter screen and starting storage space of 128GB.
Release date: The phones are available to order now from the Apple online store and will be available to purchase at Apple stores in Australia starting Friday, September 24.
New iPad
Models: iPad and iPad mini
Hardware update highlights: The new iPad (9th generation) will have a faster A13 processor and starting storage stage of 64GB (double the storage of the previous generation), as well as a better, 12-megapixel front-facing camera (for better Zoom calls) with a wider lens to capture more people in a single scene. An Apple Pencil, sold separately, will also be available to use with the new iPad.
Release date: The new iPad models are available to order now from Apple’s online store and will be available to purchase at Apple stores in Australia starting Friday, September 24.
Apple Watch Series 7
Model: Apple Watch Series 7 with aluminum case finishings in midnight, starlight, green, and a new blue and red.
Hardware update highlights: The new models have 20% more screen area and a screen that is more crack-resistant. The new Apple Watch also charges faster, promising 18 hours on a single charge.
Release date: No release date was announced — it was simply said the new models would be available later this year.
