Aussie icons Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney, aka The Kates, are back and better than ever with their new murder mystery comedy series Deadloch. As we’ve established, the titular town of Deadloch, Tasmania isn’t a real place, but the show was filmed in Tasmania. Ahead, we break down the main Deadloch filming locations, so that you can head on over and enjoy Tasmania’s moody atmosphere for yourself.
For the unfamiliar, Deadloch follows Senior Sgt Dulcie Collins (played by Kate Box), whose attempts at work-life balance are thrown for a loop when a local man turns up dead on the beach. Soon enough, Detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) arrives from Darwin to work on the investigation, and to call them an odd-couple duo would perhaps be the understatement of the century.
It’s a uniquely Australian series that skewers the self-serious crime shows we know and love. If you’re looking for a good time, look no further than Deadloch.

Deadloch Filming Locations
Deadloch was filmed in Tasmania, primarily in the southern region of Australia’s island state. Here are some of the specific locations.
Cygnet
Cygnet, Tasmania is located in the Huon Valley, and is known for its eclectic, artsy vibe.
The town is popular with artists, and while they may not have Deadloch‘s Winter Festival, they do host the Cygnet Folk Festival each January.
Cygnet is also a popular tourist destination, with plenty of galleries and brick-and-mortar craft shops to check out. Once you’re done buying souvenirs, you can stop at any number of tasty cafés located along the main street.
Alternately, you can embrace the town’s natural landscape. Cygnet boasts many insta-worthy orchards, and yes, plenty of wineries as well.
The town is home to Hartzview Vineyard, Two Bud Spur Vineyard and Sailor Seeks Horse, as well as Pagan Cider.
Hobart
Much of Deadloch was filmed outside of Hobart, Tasmania’s capital city. Hobart is known for its food and arts scene, with nature all around.
The underground Museum of Old and New Art, aka the MONA, is an unmissable stop for anyone travelling to or through Hobart. Meanwhile, Saturdays are for the Salamanca Market, which has been running for over 50 years.
If you want to get out and see Tasmania in all its natural glory, Hobart is the place to be. The 20km radius around the state’s capital boasts options for all kinds of outdoor adventures. You can bike, hike, climb, kayak, abseil and surf to your heart’s content.
Then, head back into the city where you can enjoy the city’s vibrant restaurant and bar scene.
Kingston Beach
The beach that features prominently in Deadloch is in fact located in Kingston Beach, Tasmania. Kingston Beach is a suburb located on the outskirts of Hobart, and is 2km away from the suburb of Kingston.
Kingston is a fast-growing region of Tasmania, as it boasts a quieter, more peaceful vibe than the hustle and bustle of Hobart.
The beach has a 4.5 star rating on Trip Advisor, with visitors praising it for its calm, relaxing vibes and picturesque views. They also say that it’s a great place to take the family, and that your dogs can run free in one section. What’s not to love?
Deadloch is streaming now on Prime Video.
