Alone Australia Season 1 was filled to the brim with iconic moments. From Gina being trapped in a rain-drenched tent for a week to Mike constructing one hell of a tarp shelter, each minute of this show had us on our tip-toes. What’s more, all of this Alone Australia drama was gloriously filmed against Tasmania’s West Coast.
However, Alone Australia 2024 wasn’t filmed in Tasmania. In fact, despite what its title suggests, it wasn’t filmed in Australia. That’s right, we’re only two seasons in, and this show has already gone international.
So, where was Alone Australia 2024 filmed? Why did they move locations? Let’s dive into the details right now.
Where Was Alone Australia 2024 Filmed?
Alone Australia 2024 was filmed on New Zealand’s South Island, also known as Aotearoa’s Te Waipounamu.
New Zealand’s South Island is famous for its captivating tapestry of stunning and diverse landscapes. It has towering snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and pristine beaches along its coastline. However, while its vistas are beautiful, they can be equally perilous. The South Island can get coated in blankets of heavy snow, with temperatures reaching as low as -10°C.
According to the studio behind Alone Australia, ITV Studios, New Zealand’s South Island was the perfect location for this show’s 2024 season. As their Chief Content Officer Beth Hart explained in a press statement, this locale made the show a slice more dramatic.
“This year, we have upped the ante,” Beth said. “ITV Studios Australia is truly excited for Season 2 to be unveiled, as this year’s participants face the fiercest challenge yet in the breathtaking but brutal South Island of New Zealand. The nail-biting stories, ten new survivalists, and extreme conditions will not disappoint.”
Alone Australia returns to us all on Wednesday, March 27 on SBS and SBS on Demand. Miss an episode? Catch up with SBS on Demand.
