Is There a Season 3 of Netflix’s Breakout Hit ‘Virgin River’?

Virgin River

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains major spoilers from Season 2 of Virgin River.

The world has simply fallen in love with Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s (Australia’s Martin Henderson) love story on Virgin River.

The second season only just arrived on Netflix, however, it is already trending at number one in Australia.

The TV show, which is based on a series of novels by Robyn Carr, follows midwife Mel with a tragic past who is trapped in a love triangle with bar owner Jack and his pregnant friend-with-benefits Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley).

In the final episode of the season, the will-they-won’t-they sees their happy ending in jeopardy when Jack is attacked, leaving us to wonder, will they ever be?

Given that there are several cliffhangers, one can only assume that there will be a third season even though it has not been officially confirmed. Last year, we were gifted with news of renewal for season 2 towards the end of December, so perhaps we don’t have to wait too long to find out for news of another instalment.

According to Production WeeklyVirgin River was set to be filmed between August and December this year, however, there’s no news or confirmation on whether this has taken place — if it has, we can expect another season in November/December 2021.

Alongside Breckenridge and Henderson (Jack Sheridan), series regulars include Colin Lawrence (Preacher), Tim Matheson (Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins), Annette O’Toole (Hope McCrea), Jenny Cooper (Joey Barnes), Grayson Gurnsey (Ricky) and Benjamin Hollingsworth (Dan Brady).

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Sue Tennery said that a third season will see “a larger time jump than we had between seasons one and two” however, the question of who shot Jack is unlikely to get an answer straight away.

Other storylines, including Doc’s medical diagnosis and whether Preacher will go to San Fransico, will also be addressed if there is another season.

Carr’s novels have 21 instalments and while we can’t see Virgin River going on for that long, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for season 3.
