It’s official! The remix of “Lover” is here with Shawn Mendes joining Taylor for this first “collaborashawn”.
The pair, who have been friends for awhile now and have performed together during Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour, but this is their first track together.
The remix is a re-worked version of Swift’s title track, and features new lyrics written by Mendes for the occasion.
On Instagram, Swift gushed about the remix, and getting to work with Mendes, saying she was “really excited about” it.
Teasing the release before it dropped, she said it was “featuring someone who I’m such a huge fan of, who I’ve known for a really long time, and someone who I’ve always really been dying to collaborate with”.
Of Mendes’ new verse, Swift said it was “important” for Shawn to add his own lyrics, not only because she “[loves] him as a writer”, but because everyone’s love stories look different.
“I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover,” she explained, “and I think his take on it is so beautiful… I’m so, so, so excited about this and I hope you are too.”
