Earlier this month, Pantone announced that its annual colour of the year for 2023 would be Viva Magenta, an animated red the paint company describes as “vibrating with vim and vigour” and “welcoming of anyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit”.
“It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength,” Pantone writes on its site. “Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”
Pantone’s 2021 Colour of the Year pick was exactly two shades, Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, while last year’s went back to a single shade, Very Peri, a vibrant purple hue.
