Disney+ has released the first trailer for its much-hyped Star Wars limited series Obi-Wan Kenobigiving us a sneak peak of Obi-Wan keeping a watchful eye on a young Luke Skywalker while the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) is on the hunt for him.

The six-episode series stars Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi Master and Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and takes place 10 years after the events in Revenge of the Sith — “where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader”.

The cast also sees Aussie actor Joel Edgerton return to the role of Luke’s uncle, Owen Lars and Bonnie Piesse as his wife Beru. Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and Maya Erskine also star.

In an interview with Forbes, McGregor spoke of the experience of not only returning to the role of Obi-Wan but getting to work with Hayden Christensen again.

“It was a great experience,” he said. “Deborah Chow directed all the episodes and she’s really good. She directed a couple [episodes] of The Mandalorian and she’s a really great director. She really knows the Star Wars world, inside out, far more than I do. We just had a great time.

“I think it’s no secret that Hayden Christensen comes back and we got to play scenes together again as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker and it was just fantastic to work with him again. I’m not going to give away anything else about the storyline, only I think it’s really going to satisfy Star Wars fans.”

The actor added that he loved stepping back into the iconic robe of Obi-Wan and that playing him again made him “really happy.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of a slew of Star Wars spinoffs that have either joined or are slated to join Disney+, with around 16 Lucasfilm projects in the pipeline for film and television.

The streamer debuted The Book of Boba Fett in December 2021, with the series picking up directly where The Mandalorian ended.

Looking ahead in 2022, prequel series Andor will feature Diego Luna as rebel spy Cassian Andor once again, over 12 episodes, and Jon Favreau-created series The Mandalorian will return for a third season, continuing the story of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).

Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut on Disney+ on May 25, 2022. Check out the trailer below.
