Overnight, Apple announced a suite of new products at its ‘Far Out’ event, broadcast from the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Among the new announcements was an iPhone 14 range, including a new Plus model and no more Mini, a second generation of AirPods Pro, with a notch on the case to attach a lanyard and a Find My feature, and three new Apple Watches, including new models SE and Ultra.
“Inspired by explorers and athletes from around the world, we created an entirely new category of Apple Watch designed for new and extreme environments — it’s the most rugged and capable Apple Watch yet,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.
“Apple Watch Ultra is a versatile tool that empowers users to push their boundaries with adventure, endurance and exploration.”

New Apple Watch Models
The new Apple Watch line-up announced includes Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch SE.
Apple Watch Series 8
The design of the Apple Watch Series 8 isn’t too dissimilar to Series 7, but it includes new features like Crash Detection and temperature sensing, both of which are also available on the Apple Watch Ultra.
The two Watches uses two sensors — one on the back that presses against the wearer’s skin and a second on the front, just beneath the surface of the touchscreen — to measure the temperature of the surrounding environment for improved accuracy.
The data is then used to provide info for fertility tracking and ovulation cycles, including when your next ovulation cycle will begin based on when you had your last one. And if you’re worried about any privacy issues, Apple promises that when the data is synched to your iCloud, the info is completely encrypted, even from the company.
Apple Watch Ultra
Apple Watch Ultra is designed for sportier consumers and is the largest Apple Watch yet. During normal use, it can reach up to 36 hours of battery life with an iPhone present (as can the Series 8). In other words, enough battery life for users completing a long-course triathlon. Later this year, it’ll also have a low-power setting with reduced frequency of GPS and heart rate readings, a feature also available on Series 8.
The Apple Watch Ultra is 2x brighter than any Apple Watch display yet, is made from aerospace-grade titanium and has precision dual-frequency GPS.
With the help of the new Oceanic+ app, available later this year, the Apple Watch Ultra can turn into a capable dive computer. The app runs the Bühlmann decompression algorithm and includes dive planning, dive metrics, visual and haptic alerts, no-decompression limit, ascent rate and safety stop guidance.
Apple Watch SE
Apple Watch SE is the lightest and most affordable Apple Watch to date. It maintains the same case design, but features a redesigned matching back case made of a nylon composite material.
Apple Watch 2022 Colours
Aluminium case colours for Apple Watch Series 8 include starlight, midnight, silver and red, while the stainless steel case offers silver, graphite and gold.
Apple Watch SE comes in midnight, starlight and silver finishes, and is compatible with all bands.
