A New Front Camera, Changing Colours and All the Other iPhone 14 Leaks So Far

Apple iPhone 14

We’re days away from finding out about Apple’s latest products. The announce is expected to be during an Apple event broadcast on Wednesday, September 7, seeing as the tech giant usually announces its new products at an event held around September.

With the date now set, we’re being treated to leaked images and details about the new iPhone 14. The latest?

iPhone 14 Models

According to multiple online sources, the mini iPhone will be axed, while a new Max model (different to Pro Max) will be introduced. It’ll sit alongside the line-up of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The Max model is said to be the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but cheaper and without the Pro features. So, basically, just with a bigger screen and bigger battery, but nothing else that the regular iPhone 14 doesn’t have.

iPhone 14 Always-On Display

Also recently leaked is that iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get an always-on display feature, according to MacRumors forums. The background of the Lock Screen wallpaper will be darkened, while the foreground will merely be dimmed. Widgets will be visible on the always-on display, but will fade in and out at set intervals, unnoticeable to the user, to prevent OLED burn-in.

iPhone 14 Colours

Previously, we’d learnt that the iPhone range would be introducing a new colour: purple. In a Weibo video reposted on Twitter by DuanRai with caption “Purple only appears at certain angles”, a person holding what might be the iPhone 14 turns it to show it’s shifting colour.

iPhone 14 Camera

The same Twitter account, DuanRai, also shared photos of what’s thought to be the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max’s new front camera. The pics show a dual-punch hole design instead of a notch.

As for the camera itself, the iPhone 14 range is predicted to have up to a 48-megapixel camera and 8K video recording capacity. It’ll also have autofocus capabilities to improve video calls.

The upped camera tech could explain the predicted larger camera “bump” on the new models. Leaked schematics posted by Max Weinbach say the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a camera bump of 36.73mm by 38.21mm, larger than the iPhone 13 range. A separate report says the Chassis surrounding the glass of the entire phone could be made from titanium.

iPhone 14 Price

Price-wise, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates the iPhone 14 range to be about 15% more expensive than the iPhone 13 series, meaning the iPhone could have a starting price tag of around $1,349.

Software-wise, iOS 16 is currently in beta testing, but it’s expected the final version should also be announced at the Apple event.

Apple Watch Series 8

The new Apple Watch, Series 8, is also thought to be announced at the event. Reliable Apple insider Mark Gurman predicts the range will include a new pro model for sportier consumers, which will have a larger display, rugged titanium case, new fitness tracking features and longer battery life. For the price-conscious, an Apple Watch SE will also be debuted, Gurman noted.

Apple HomePod

Previously, Gurman reported that Apple was working on an upgrade to its HomePod. He said he believed the new version would feature an updated S8 processor and possibly a new multi-touch display on top, and that it would be released in early 2023. He added that the updates weren’t likely to be “super-impressive”.

Apple has “at least four new smart home devices in its labs, but not all will see the light of the day”, he added.
