It’s that time of the year again, where the sun is shining, Christmas decorations are set to be out in full display and the most anticipated movies of 2021 are gearing up to hit cinemas across the country. The movies are the perfect place to kick your feet up on a comfy recliner chair and just unwind for an hour or two.
There are no distractions, and for a short while, all of life’s admin just gets put to the side. 2021 has been a tough year for Australians, and now that things are returning to normal, it’s time to head to the movies with friends, family or that special someone to watch your favourite stars on the big screen.
And if you’re in Perth, then there’s no better place to enjoy the little luxuries than HOYTS’ new multi-million dollar flagship Karrinyup venue. The state-of-the-art cinema not only contains nine auditoriums but also includes the immersive HOYTS D-BOX experience. And if that wasn’t enough to sell you on it, the new theatre is being called the best cinema in Perth.
While the experience is totally bougie, the price remains affordable. When purchasing a standard cinema ticket, each person will get to sit in an extra-comfy recliner chair with wider seating and plenty of legroom. But if you do feel like splurging, you can enjoy the night in one of the two HOYTS LUX auditoriums, which come complete with their own lounge and bar and feature panoramic city views.
And if that wasn’t enough, then the new venue will also contain two HOYTS Xtremescreen auditoriums if you want to take the viewing experience to the next level.
So now that you’re just itching to make your way to HOYTS Karrinyup, we thought you should know our top five movie picks for when you want to relax while indulging in a choc top:
Encanto
No one does feel-good animation movies better than Disney, and after watching the trailer for Encanto, we already know it’s going to be a smash hit. The movie centres around the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a magical place called an Encanto. Each child has been gifted with a unique superpower, except one — Mirabel. While she questions her lack of magical abilities, Mirabel is the family’s only hope when their home is threatened.
Starring Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as the voice of Mirabel, the movie is going to fast become a family favourite. Featuring music by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, the latest installment in the world of Disney will have the whole family on their feet.

House of Gucci
You don’t need to be a fashion connoisseur to have heard the name Gucci. The internationally renowned designer brand is known for its handbags, accessories, and clothing, but what lies behind the empire is three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder.
Starring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, and Al Pacino, House of Gucci will touch on what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far one family will go for total control.
Release date: November 25
Spencer
She’s one of the most famous women in the world, despite passing in a tragic accident in 1997. Countless movies and TV shows have been made about the life of Princess Diana, but none have done what Spencer is set to do. The biographical psychological drama directed by Pablo Larrain and written by Steven Knight follows Diana during her final days of being married to Prince Charles.
Set in 1991 at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate over the Christmas period, Spencer is the imagining of what may have happened during those last final days of the highly publicised marriage. Kristen Stewart has undergone a complete transformation as she plays the role of Diana, receiving numerous accolades and also rumours of a potential Academy Award nomination – a first for the actress.

Scream
The fifth installment in the iconic Scream franchise is set to be released soon and we can hardly wait. The American slasher film follows a group of teenagers who are being targeted by Ghostface after they attempt to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell will be returning to reprise their role a decade later in the horror flick alongside newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, and Jenna Ortega. Fans can’t wait to watch Sidney Prescott (Campbell) fend off the new Ghostface, who is described as feeling different from prior killers.

Spider-Man: No Way Home
The gang is back, and we cannot wait to follow along with them as they head off on their next adventure. The synopsis of Spider-Man: No Way Home has been a heavily guarded secret, but what we do know is that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) will — you guessed it — be far away from home. For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, the friendly neighbourhood superhero will be unmasked, and will no longer be able to separate his role as a Super Hero from his everyday life.
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Zendaya as MJ, and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, the latest installment in the franchise cannot be missed.
