This season of MasterChef Australia: Secrets & Surprises is a bittersweet affair, but it remains Australia’s most beloved cooking competition. Our hopeful home cooks are putting their skills to the test in the hopes of winning the series (and the eye-watering $250,000). And of course, MasterChef Australia is all about bringing in the culinary star power. Tonight, Sergio Perera will put the contestants to the test.

Who Is Sergio Perera?
Sergio Perera is a renowned chef and nutritionist to the stars. Spoiler alert, one of his clients is Chris Hemsworth. Yes, the Chris Hemsworth. Perera’s clientele spans beyond Aussie stars, though. Hemsworth’s MCU buddy Robert Downey Jr, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio, also turn to Perera for nutritional advice and meals.
Perera was born in Spain, and his culinary upbringing heavily influences his food. He also spent time in Japan honing his skills and has worked in some of the world’s finest kitchens including elBulli, a highly acclaimed restaurant in Spain renowned for its avant-garde and innovative approach to gastronomy. This experience has undoubtedly contributed to Perera’s culinary creativity and ability to push boundaries.

What Does Sergio Perera Do?
Beyond his nutritionist and chef hats, Perera has passions, as we all do. Gastronomy, sustainability, and holistic wellness are his core values, which he constantly works on in his research lab, Arrel.
You might recognise Perrera’s name from Chris Hemsworth’s fitness and nutrition app, Centr. There, Perera shares his knowledge and recipes, bringing the secret Hollywood-level diet tips to the masses.
“Learning to listen to your own body. Just because something is ‘healthy’ doesn’t mean your body will accept it. It could be your genes or the quality of the product. Eating is a cultural and agricultural act,” he told GQ in an interview.
Perera also uses his own platform and brand to educate people on all manners of sustainable living and nutrition.
One glance at his Instagram reveals a food diary of dishes he’s made, places he’s been, and things he’s eaten. Every now and then, he’ll post an ingredient with an explanation and tips on cooking it. He also shares tips for preventing food waste and implementing sustainable practices into our lives.
