MasterChef Australia is known for platforming the very best home cooks around Australia. During the very first challenge, Nat won an immunity pin for her kangaroo larb, and Harry was later praised for his incredible kingfish pastries. But there’s one cook we still don’t know the proper calibre of. Is MasterChef Australia’s Lachlan a frontrunner, or is he a man who will fall by the wayside?

According to the MasterChef Australia judge Jean-Christophe Novelli, it’s imperative that Lachlan rises to the challenge. This season, the overall skill level is higher than ever, which means even great chefs will be eliminated.
“You forget they’re not chefs,” Jean-Christophe said. “They are amateur cooks. I keep forgetting that. I was judging them like professional chefs. The contestants are just so good. And the atmosphere, the ambience, the emotion, the speed? It’s just on the next level.”
Here’s everything we know about the 2024 MasterChef Australia contestant Lachlan.
Who Is MasterChef Australia Contestant Lachlan?
While MasterChef Australia’s Lachlan is a landscaper in Melbourne, he wants to switch careers and become a professional chef. Lachlan has always loved cooking, but he’s recently learnt that if he wants to do it full-time, he cannot sit on the sidelines.
Last year, Lachlan tragically lost his mother Jan to cancer, after a battle with the degenerative brain condition Huntington’s Disease. As Huntington’s Disease is a genetic disorder, Lachlan has learned that he’s also inherited the condition. Lachlan now knows that there’s no time like the present, so he’s joined MasterChef Australia to kickstart his cooking career.

In the kitchen, Lachlan is best known for balancing sweet flavours, sour flavours, fats, and acids. His culinary inspirations include the likes of Anthony Bourdain, Matty Matheson, Charlie Carrington, and Lennox Hastie.
The winner of the 2024 season of MasterChef Australia receives $250,000. If Lachlan wins this prize money, he’ll use it to open a restaurant with a constantly rotating menu.
