It’s Arrakis Time, Babes — The ‘Dune: Part Two’ Details You Need to Know

In 2021, Warner Bros. released a risk called Dune. Not only was it based on the labyrinthine novel of the same name, the last film adaptation of this work was a flop. In 1984, David Lynch dragged a version of Dune through development hell, only for it to be rejected by the general public. Dune became a sci-fi story that some thought was un-adaptable.

What’s more, the 2021 version of Dune ended on a cliffhanger. It did so with no guarantee that a sequel would enter the works. This was at the behest of the director, Denis Villeneuve. This dude believed that Dune was too big and complex to be a single film, so he put all of his chips on the table.

However, the gamble paid off. This film was praised by critics and the general public alike. It made $402 million at the box office. At the Academy AwardsDune was nominated for 10 Oscars and won six, including Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects.

Needless to say, Villeneuve’s sequel got the green light.

This brings us to 2023 and Dune: Part Two. A film that defied the odds. Here are the Dune: Part Two details you need to know.

What Will Dune: Part Two Be About?

Dune: Part Two’s plot will presumably pick up from where Part One left off. Duke Paul Atreides is the exiled ruler of House Atreides, after a successful military invasion by House Harkonnen took place. He’s now hiding with a group of people indigenous to the planet Arrakis, the Fremen.

While Atreides plots his revenge, he keeps having visions of an apocalyptic future. Atreides somehow feels that he’s the only one that can prevent this future from happening.

Will It Still Follow the Source Material?

Dune: Part Two is based on the second half of Frank Herbert’s Dune. It is not based on Dune Messiah

Villeneuve’s first Dune film was faithful to the source material. It’s currently unclear if his sequel will follow in these footsteps, but we would presume that would be the case.

Dune: Part Two — Cast

Dune: Part Two once again stars Timothée Chalamet as Duke Paul Atreides. Chalamet is also known for being in Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, and Little Women.

In an interview for HOMMEGIRLS, Chalamet stated returning to Arrakis was a vibe-and-a-half.

“It’s something you don’t get to do with movies,” said Chalamet. “Revisit. Actually though, I’m feeling that with Dune.

“I was younger when I did it the first time and was kind of blindsided by how big that movie was. And now, as Paul Atreides becomes more sure on his heels, I feel more sure on my heels, too.”

This film also stars Zendaya as Chani, a powerful Fremen warrior. Will Zendaya get to say more than a few sentences this time? Well, according to Chalamet, this will be the case.

Chalamet said, “She hasn’t wrapped yet, and it’s amazing. She’s bringing exactly what she brought to the first one — which was incredible — but in greater abundance.”

Zendaya has previously worked on Black-ish, Euphoria, and the new Spiderman trilogy.

The Dune: Part Two cast is also composed of Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and Christopher Walken.
