One of the biggest draws to Birdsville is the annual Birdsville Races, which take place over two days in September each year. This iconic event brings in thousands of visitors who witness the horse races, enjoy live entertainment, and soak up the unique outback atmosphere. The town’s population swells from a few hundred to several thousand during the event, creating a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. Although, at any given time, Birdsville is a thriving country town with a rich history and stunning scenery. With that said, if Birdsville has your attention, here are three hotels to book for your stay.
Birdsville Hotel
If there is one place in town you can’t miss, it’s Birdsville Hotel. This iconic outback establishment has been welcoming visitors since 1884. The restaurant and bar are packed with locals grasping cold beers or digging their forks into a plate of pub classics. As far as the accommodations are concerned, expect motel-style units with comfy beds and air conditioning. There are also a few self-contained units to choose from if you need a longer stay.
Bedourie Hotel
You won’t find a lot of options in Birdsville, but you can still explore the area and stay outside of town, in nearby Bedourie. The Bedourie Hotel is a historic hotel located in the nearby town of Bedourie, about 200 kilometres south of Birdsville and is considered an oasis on the edge of the Simpson Desert. It is a popular stop for travellers along the Birdsville Track and offers comfortable rooms, a bar, and a restaurant.
The Innamincka Hotel
The Innamincka Hotel is another popular stop for travellers making their way through the outback. It is located in the small town of Innamincka, which is about 350 kilometres west of Birdsville. The hotel offers comfortable rooms, a bar, a restaurant, and easy access to nearby attractions like the Coongie Lakes.
