Australian homes are generally known for seamlessly blending the outdoors with the indoors. Think foldable doors opening from kitchens into courtyards and big bay windows looking out onto greenery or bright blue sea.
They’re also known for their minimalist, neutral bases with pops of personality throughout, including photographs from local talent like Aquabumps and Murray Fraser, or home décor from Australian-owned brands like Jones & Co and In The Roundhouse.
With all this in mind, it makes sense then that Australian furniture brands have distinct offerings too, most of them producing pieces looking to have been plucked from nature with minimal interference, and simple enough to let home décor do the shining.

Merci Maison
Founded in 2020 by Jade Yarbrough and Danielle Roberston, Merci Maison stocks stools, chairs, lounges and bar carts, among other furniture. Inspiration for the pieces comes from the founders’ love for both vintage and contemporary design, as well as their appreciation for European style. Each piece has impeccable details and polished construction using top-grade materials.
McMullin & co
Alice McMullin founded McMullin & co in 2018 with the design ethos of questioning how we move and interact in the spaces we live. The brand’s offering includes bed heads, bench seats and dining tables; many pieces are antiques, handpicked by McMullin herself. The brand also sells artwork, currently from artists Phoebe Stone and Ash Leslie.
Zenn Design
Founded by Melbourne-based interior stylist Hannah Goldberg, Zenn Design has sofas and modulars, fully upholstered beds and custom bedheads. Pieces are all made-to-order, and can be customised to suit the individuals’ needs.
Coco Republic
Coco Republic is one of Australia’s most-known luxury furniture brands, with showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The brand sells furniture for the bedroom, lounge room and outdoors. Its ethos is to help create interior and outdoor spaces that are welcoming, lived in and loved. MCM House
MCM House was founded in 2005 by Charles Hinckfuss, who began his career by buying and selling antique furniture. Today, it has built a strong reputation as one of the country’s leading furniture and homewares brands. The brand’s standout piece is easily its Joe Sofa, which comes in six different colours and four sizes, ranging from two-seater to 3.5-seater.
Fantastic Furniture
Fantastic Furniture was started with a humble stall at Sydney’s Parklea Markets in 1989, and has since grown to have over 100 stores around the country, as well as an online store. Though furniture from the brand is certainly mass produced, it still focuses on sustainability, continuing to improve its processes to be better for the environment. By 2025, it’s aiming to have all of its external product packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable.
Fenton and Fenton
Fenton and Fenton was started by Lucy Fenton in a small store in Melbourne’s South Yarra in 2018. Fenton says her many travels helped to inspire her to start the business. Today, Fenton and Fenton has a showroom in Prahan, as well as its online store, which Fenton says has become the backbone of the business.
