Greta Gerwig’s hotly anticipated Barbie film has flooded our social media feeds with on-set pics of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and, of course, the viral Barbie trailer. Let’s not forget the second trailer drop, which revealed more of Barbie Land and a taste of the plot. It’s safe to say fans live and breathe life in plastic, with Barbiecore taking over interior design trends and Barbie-inspired fashion making a comeback on the runway and streets. Now, it seems we’ll be able to live in the Barbie universe, even if it’s just for a few hours.
Enter World of Barbie, an immersive exhibition giving hardcore Barbie fans a chance to live and play in their own saccharine pink world. Barbie’s iconic Malibu Dreamhouse inspires each room. Visitors will be able to play around in a life-size version of Barbie’s closet, dive into a ball pit pool in the backyard, and record a masterpiece in Barbie’s music studio.
Pose in an iconic Barbie box, catch a classic Barbie animated flick at the World of Barbie cinema, and revisit Barbie dolls and accessories from over six decades, including the original doll.
For those who grew up rolling Barbie’s campervan around the living room, get excited. The World of Barbie has commissioned a life-size Barbie Campervan from none other than West Coast Customs, which you can sit in. There is also a Barbie Interstellar Airways Shuttle room because, as you might know, Barbie has been a scientist, designer, music producer, astronaut, and more.
The only catch? World of Barbie is now open at Santa Monica Place in Los Angeles, with tickets costing $34 USD. So you’ll have to make quite the journey to get there. But, afterwards, you can head down to Venice Beach, where Barbie made a major splash on social media last year with viral photos of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling decked out in neon and rollerblades as Barbie and Ken. So it’s well worth the visit if you’re thinking about a trip to the US.
I know what you’re thinking. Los Angeles is so far away. Yes, it is, but it’s Barbie! What better way to celebrate the film than with a Barbie trip? In the meantime, here’s hoping World of Barbie comes to Australia real soon. Let’s start a petition!
