Pack your bags because we’re heading to Thailand for season 3 of White Lotus!
As per reports from Variety, apparently, a number of sources close to the production of the anticipated third instalment of the hit TV series have spilled the tea on the show’s location.
Back in January, White Lotus creator, Mike White, released a very telling video (via journalist Evan Ross Katz’s Instagram) filmed on the pristine beaches of a holiday resort.
“I am in Thailand,” he said while panning to the ocean.
Four Seasons has four properties in Thailand. It’s also the only country to have that many Four Seasons, so people have spent the last year speculating which one it will be: Chiang Mai, Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Chao Phraya River, or Koh Samui.
Well, we know it can’t be the Tented Camp because it’s just a little too remote and small to film on. However, missed opportunity given the resort is unique and downright magical. We can already imagine being a fly on the wall in the restaurant with the elephants shovelling bananas into their mouths.
White Lotus has yet to portray an urban setting, but chances are the Four Seasons Chao Phraya River isn’t exclusive enough for the White Lotus crew. So, that leaves Chiang Mai and Koh Samui.
Four Seasons Koh Samui
If we were a betting man, all our chips would be on Koh Samui. However, this is Thailand, gambling is illegal, so instead, we’re just going to strongly suggest that Koh Samui is the beachside resort White had his eye on. The video he posted pans a beach, and our guess is he wasn’t there for a holiday. Four Seasons Koh Samui has everything the show needs: a resort with palm-lined beaches, breezy villas, a glass-like infinity pool, a rum vault, and a secret garden spa. We can already hear the drama unfolding. There are even a few excursions where accidents could happen. Perhaps snorkelling or at the Big Buddha Temple? Who knows, but Koh Samui is the only one that makes sense.
Four Seasons Chiang Mai
The Four Seasons Chiang Mai resort would be the perfect backdrop for another white Lotus-fuelled drama and mystery with a more spiritual connection. Imagine terraced rice paddies, fine dining cuisine, four-bedroom residences, and private chefs. It screams opulence, and I don’t know about you, but we could use it with some drama while bathing water buffaloes.
Following the final episode of season 2, we left the cast in Taormina, Italy along with the sad demise of favourite guest, Tanya McQuoid, played by the wonderful Jennifer Coolidge. Many fans are wondering where season 3 will go without the star of the show — could they go back in time? Will they include flashbacks of Tanya? What I’m trying to tell Mike White is – ‘please can you bring back Tanya from the dead?!’
Despite the many plot lines we have up in the air, one thing we know for sure is that there will be death, excess, privilege, a pivotal resort manager and plenty of buffets. And I, for one, cannot wait for it to all go down in Thailand.
