The highly anticipated FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is almost here. Brisbane Stadium will be one of the ten venues spread across Australia and New Zealand hosting the matches, but that doesn’t mean you need to be in it to watch the games.
If you haven’t secured tickets to the matches already, or simply prefer the lively atmosphere of a public big-screen space, fear not. Brisbane has you covered, as there will be a tonne of options for live screenings of the games.

So, gather your friends, grab your jerseys, and head to one of the many locations in Brisbane where you can catch all the thrilling moments of the tournament.
Whether you’re backing the Matildas or interested in watching all the matches, there will be options tailored to your preferences. Some venues will exclusively showcase the Matildas’ games, while others will broadcast all the live matches throughout the tournament.

Where to Watch the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brisbane
The Matildas have three confirmed games against Ireland, Canada, and Nigeria, making it a relatively challenging group stage for us. If we make it out of the group stage, we’ll then be through to the knockout rounds.
Timetables and coverage of the later games are still to be confirmed depending on where we place, but the three confirmed group stage games will be held on:
- Thursday, 20 July at 8pm – Australia vs Ireland
- Thursday, 27 July at 8pm – Australia vs Nigeria
- Monday, 31 July at 8pm – Australia vs Canada
Free Outdoor Live Screens in Brisbane Showing the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023
South Bank Parklands
South Bank Parklands is going to be your go-to for all things World Cup during the tournament. The South Brisbane hub is the site of the Brisbane FIFA Fan Festival, a site set up to showcase and celebrate all the games.
At the moment, there’s not a heap of information from FIFA on exactly what will be happening. However, if it’s set up like the Fan Festivals in other cities, you can expect big-screen showings of all the games, not just Australia’s matches.
In addition, there’s the promise of lots of live music from local artists, local food offerings, as well as games and activities for kids.
The Fan Festival will be open every day from 20 July until the final match on 20 August. Site opening times vary depending on matches that day so it’s worth checking the details here before you head over.
The events will be unticketed and no booking is required.
Best Bars and Pubs to Watch the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brisbane
Pig and Whistle, Various Locations
The Pig and Whistle channel old-school English pub vibes across six modern venues in the city. Each and everyone will be playing all of the 64 games of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on big screens with booming surround sound. The menu is British and European-inspired modern pub fare and tipples, with high tea options if you’re feeling particularly posh.
The Caxton Hotel, Petrie Terrace
Right around the corner from Suncorp Stadium, the Caxton is one of the oldest pubs in Brisbane and boasts a strong connection to massive sporting events. This is your go-to for a beer before the match but, if you haven’t got tickets, they’ll be showing the Matildas’ matches on screens around the venue and the big one outside. If you want atmosphere, the Caxton has it in spades.
Waterloo Hotel, Fortitude Valley
This art-deco icon is a landmark of the Fortitude Valley bar scene. On game days, the Waterloo is the place to be and the place packs out with hundreds of fans. Expect similar scenes for the FIFA World Cup, with all Australian games playing on screens throughout the venue.
The Breakfast Creek Hotel is one of the most iconic venues in the state. Looking like something out of a Wes Anderson film, the vast venue boasts multiple outdoor dining sections perfect for World Cup watching. The hotel will be running a competition throughout the tournament to win World Cup Finals tickets so they’re definitely one to get around for the games.
One of the city’s best sports bars, Buffalo Bar boasts stunning old world features and a menu to match. They’ll be slinging their famous slow-cooked, smoked meats and buffalo wings paired with an assortment of dark-liquor cocktails. The outdoor sports bar area is surrounded by big screen TVs that will have select World Cup games on throughout the tournament.
The Normanby aren’t sure if they have have biggest LED screen in Brisbane showing live sports, but they’re willing to bet it’s up there. A sports mad establishment on the edge of Victoria Park, they blast everything from the Melbourne Cup to the Olympics in their vast beer garden and, of course, that means the FIFA World Cup. Catch the Australia games live on the big screen with a cold drink in hand.
Oozing old-world character and charm, the Boundary has been an icon of the West End for over 150 years. They’re the home of the only roof terrace in the area and have a dedicated public bar for sports fans. Select World Cup games will be on the big screens and their order-from-your-phone system means you’ll never have to miss a second of the action.
The Osborne Hotel, Fortitude Valley
Expect The Osborne to be buzzing on game days as the action unfolds on the big screen above their beer garden. This place soaks up much of the atmosphere from the surrounding streets and is often filled with revellers late into the night. The food is good and the drinks are reasonably priced. You could do a lot worse for World Cup viewing.
