The Block is back, babes. Yet, for the first time in yonks, this season isn’t bigger and bulkier than ever. Instead of being filmed on a slab of Victorian farmland, The Block is going back to the suburbs.
However, this is probably for the best. Season 18 of The Block, which was filmed in Gisborne, was too big. Having the five teams spread across 10 acres limited the amount of time these teams could interact. This meant that The Block’s 2022 season never quite reached the dramatic heights of 2021.
So where was The Block’s 2023 season filmed? Which Australian suburb was the chosen one? Here are the deets that you’re so desperately craving.
The Block’s 2023 Filming Location
The 2023 season of The Block is being filmed on Charming Street in the Melbourne suburb of Hampton East. Charming Street is close to several shopping strips, parks, tennis courts, football ovals, and gyms.
Meanwhile, Hampton East has a population of around 4,693 people. According to some locals on Homely, the neighbourhood is cosy, an undiscovered gem, and a great place for families.
As one newbie explained, “We just moved to Hampton East several months ago. We really love this area… Our neighbours are really nice.”
However, some residents are concerned that the area is becoming too gentrified.
“It’s being discovered by owners and builders alike, with a huge amount of renovations and redevelopments happening around us,” said another local. “The area is going through a real gentrification phase and is a Brighton East in the making.”
Hampton East was also established in the 1950s. Which is rather apt, as this season of The Block is 1950- themed.
Hampton East: Median House Price
According to Domain, the median price for a four-bedroom house is $1,648,000. However, this doesn’t mean that each team on The Block will win this much on auction day.
Take for instance, last season’s Tom and Sarah-Jane Calleja. This pair had the best house, and was expected to win, but only made $20,000 on auction day. As it stands, anything can happen in Hampton East.
The Block drops on Sundays through to Wednesdays on Channel 9 and the 9Now app.
