From recreating Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley, and some of the world’s most iconic historic destinations such as the Taj Mahal and the Colosseum, LEGO has come a long way since the ‘50s.

And now, you can recreate famous artworks, thanks to LEGO Ideas Club member “legotruman”.

The user-designed Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night set allows adults and kids alike to build the iconic painting in 3D.

“As a LEGO fan and an admirer of the painter, I wish to recreate one of his most celebrated artwork in Lego form, and share this with all Lego fans and art lovers!” Legotruman, the creator of The Starry Night set said.

The idea gained over 10,000 votes, meaning the 1,552-piece set is now approved to go into production.

Van Gogh painted The Starry Night in 1889, as his view from his window just before sunrise. He was staying at a mental health institution, in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, at the time. With its famous swirling sky and flame-shaped trees, the painting style and vision expressed a distortion of his reality.

For the 3D LEGO version of The Starry Night, Van Gogh’s iconic brushstroke is captured with short, thin bricks in different shades of the same colours. The swirling sky is built with brick plates and curved parts, while the moon and stars are depicted as circular pieces.

The set also includes a Van Gogh mini figure, paintbrush, palette, easel and all. There’s even a Minifigure of Van Gogh painting The Starry Night painting. It’s like watching the artist work in real-time.

Keep an eye on the LEGO website for its release.

In 2020, LEGO announced it would be putting another user-ideated set into production when it received 10,000 upvotes: Jerry’s Apartment from Seinfield, for the show’s 30-year anniversary.
