Earlier this week, Luxury Escapes announced it would be handing out $200 travel vouchers to vaccinated Australians as part of a $200 million scheme to speed up Australia’s less-than-impressive vaccine roll-out and encourage the reopening of international borders.
Now, the airlines are joining the party with their very own initiatives designed to reopen the skies and fast-track the recovery of Australia’s tourism industry.
Virgin VA-X & Win
Virgin Australia has today announced the VA-X & Win Competition, which offers Aussies with proof of vaccination the chance to win a bunch of prizes, including a major prize to become a Velocity Frequent Flyer Points millionaire.
Someone with one million Velocity Frequent Flyer Points would be able to fly around Australia seven times between each capital city, or redeem the points to take an international holiday when borders reopen.
Free business class flights, vouchers and points are also on offer, so yeah, it’s a pretty enticing scheme (although herd immunity is tempting enough, to be honest).
“For simply rolling up your sleeve and getting a COVID-19 vaccination, you could walk away with a share in tens of thousands of dollars of Virgin Australia and Velocity Frequent Flyer prizes, or be the lucky one to become a Velocity Points millionaire,” Virgin Australia said in a statement.
“What the latest lockdown in Melbourne and the evolving situation in Sydney has taught us, is the sooner we can all get vaccinated, the sooner we can get on with our lives, without the constant fear and uncertainty that come with lockdowns, restrictions and closed borders. Most importantly, the sooner all Australians are vaccinated, the sooner our most vulnerable members of society will be protected.”
The VA-X & Win Competition is not yet open, but you can sign up right now to be notified when the prizes are to become available later this year.
Qantas Vaccine Incentive
National carrier Qantas is set to announce its own vaccine incentive program soon, and while the details are scarce, but CEO Alan Joyce has already promised 10 “mega-prizes” of a year of unlimited free economy flights on Qantas and Jetstar flights for a family of up to four members. Each of the 10 winners would also receive one million Accor ALL points to use on accommodation.
Also rumoured to be on offer are discounted airfares, flight vouchers, Qantas Points, and status credits.
The incentive program is expected to launch in July. Vaccinated Aussies will be allowed to apply, as well as anyone who gets the jab before the end of 2021.
