A one-of-a-kind, large-scale art exhibition originally en route to Melbourne has changed course to arrive in Sydney — the decision was made to relocate the exhibit following Victoria’s second-wave of COVID-19 infections.
Van Gogh Alive is a multi-sensory, immersive installation that has so far attracted more than 6 million people across 50 global cities, including Rome, Berlin, and Hong Kong.
In Sydney, the exhibit will be hosted for a limited season kicking off from Friday, September 18, at The Royal Hall of Industries in Moore Park, which is considered a COVID-safe venue.
Unlike a more conventional gallery exhibit, Van Gogh Alive gives visitors an interactive opportunity to view the prolific artist’s works in what is described as a “vibrant symphony of light, colour, sound and fragrance”.
Guests will walk among more than 3,000 enormous images as they’re projected upon walls, floors and ceilings on a huge scale, allowing a close-up look at every brushstroke.
An evocative classical score will play simultaneously, while aromas released periodically will awake the sense of smell to pair with the works displayed at that time.
Emma Triggs, founder and CEO of the M Agency and Promoter of Van Gogh Alive at MLive, says: “Van Gogh Alive presents Van Gogh and his work in an entirely different, contemporary light.
“It is one of the most immersive and sharable experiences I’ve ever seen. The fact that it is absolutely no-touch makes it ideal in today’s COVID-aware climate.
“We hope everyone enjoys this amazing multi-sensory exhibition. It’s a great opportunity to experience art in a completely new way and to reconnect with creative culture in a safe space.”
Excitingly, the Sydney show will be the biggest version to be exhibited so far of Van Gogh Alive. It will be up to three times larger than displays in some cities.
Ticket’s to Van Gogh Alive cost $30 and will be available to purchase online. Head over to the official site to sign up for first access and to learn more about the exhibit.
