Since Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 dropped, we’ve been patiently anxiously waiting for Volume 2 to land on Netflix. What’s going to happen with Vecna? Will everyone survive? If not… who’s going to die? We’re on the edge of our seats.
Soon enough, all will be revealed when Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 drops on July 1, but then what? We’ll just have one single, solitary season left of Stranger Things and then that’ll be it? How are we supposed to live?!
Thankfully, in a new interview with Variety, Stranger Things co-creators (and twin brothers) Matt and Ross Duffer teased that there could definitely be a spin off in the works.
“There’s a version of it developing in parallel [to Season 5], but they would never shoot it parallel,” Ross said. “I think actually we’re going to start delving into that soon as we’re winding down and finishing these visual effects, Matt and I are going to start getting into it.”
Matt then added that it’s important to them that they’re making a show that stands on its own, with or without being attached to Stranger Things, and maintains the integrity of the original series.
“The reason we haven’t done anything is just because you don’t want to be doing it for the wrong reasons, and it was just like, ‘Is this something I would want to make regardless of it being related to Stranger Things or not?’ And definitely. Even if we took the Stranger Things title off of it, I’m so, so excited about it,” Matt said. “It’s going to be different than what anyone is expecting, including Netflix.”
2022 has become an increasingly dire time for Netflix, with staff layoffs and plummeting stock prices plaguing the company. In the midst of these struggles, though, Stranger Things continues to dominate. With Season 4 Volume 1 clocking over 286.7 million hours viewed, the sci-fi series surpassed the second season of Bridgerton, becoming Netflix’s most-watched English language program.
Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 is streaming now on Netflix, with Volume 2 dropping on July 1, 2022.
