Director Spike Lee has paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant at the 2020 Oscars.
Arriving on the red carpet at the 92 Annual Academy Awards, Lee paid homage to his friend by wearing a purple suit with yellow trimmings, the colours of Bryant’s team the LA Lakers.
On either side of the lapel, Lee sported the numbers two and four, in honour of Bryant’s jersey number “24”.
“Tribute. Honour. Homage,” Lee told an ABC journalist when asked why he was wearing the numbers.
“We all miss him.”
In another interview with E! News‘ Ryan Seacrest, Lee was asked how he was doing after basketballer’s death.
Visibly emotional, the BlacKkKlansman director was at a loss for words.
Bryant died in a helicopter crash on January 26 in Los Angeles, which also claimed the life of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna “Gigi” Maria Bryant and seven others.
He will be honoured during the 2020 Oscars telecast, which is taking place February 9 (February 10 in Australia) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
