Few countries are as closely connected to the spirit of nature as Japan. From Shintoism to traditional arts and practices, the Japanese way of life is inherently intertwined with the fundamental elements of earth, fire, air, and water. Japan’s beautiful mountains, hot springs (onsen), and forests have long served as sanctuaries for healing and introspection. They believe seeking solace in nature is the key to healing the mind, body, and soul and this belief has resonated with many countries, particularly in the Western world, inspiring the creation of wellness retreats.

Nestled in the Gold Coast’s ancient tropical rainforests, a new kind of wellness retreat is taking shape. Sol Elements is poised to be a leading wellness destination, inspired by nature’s four elements and the traditional Japanese Wabi Sabi philosophy.

What is Wabi Sabi? It’s the acceptance of imperfection. Yes, that means accepting aging, flaws, and the beauty of the effects of time. We told you it was a new kind of wellness retreat. Think of it as fixing broken ceramics with gold lacquer, another Japanese practice called Kintsugi. Instead of making you look ten years younger or fixing your problem areas, Sol Elements will encourage guests to accept their imperfections on the path to a better mind, body, and soul.

Healing Power of Nature

Sol’s primary focus will centre around inspiring guests to discover the beauty within their surroundings and cultivate connections through the practice of relaxation, self-care, and embracing a slower pace of life.

Drawing inspiration from the elements, expect to immerse yourself in onsens, venture into float therapy rooms, brave cold plunge pools, unwind in a Himalayan salt cave, and bask in the warmth of infrared saunas.

There is even a breath work workshop guided by experienced practitioners and body clay treatments explicitly used for self-care. Whether you choose to spend your day luxuriating in the therapeutic onsen waters or daringly plunging into the cold pool to boost your immunity and aid muscle recovery, there’s something to cater to every wellness enthusiast.

Sol Elements is slated to open in early 2024 in Tamborine Mountain. Stay tuned for an opening date and first look inside Australia’s newest wellness destination.
