If you own a pet, you’d know how tough it can be sometimes to work out who will care for them when you go away. Not to mention how far from ideal the pain is when leaving them — both on their end and yours.
While in the past, some accommodations did allow pets to stay, ever since COVID, the number of pet-friendly places has boomed. More people now own pets, who became lockdown companions, and more of those pets have attachment issues.
If you’re looking for a staycation in Sydney with your pet, or you’re travelling to the city and wanting them to stay, too, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From boutique stays in Surry Hills, to grand hotels in the city and along the Northern Beaches, these are some of the best accommodation in Sydney that’ll let you bring your pooch or feline overnight.
Kimpton Margot Sydney
There’s no additional charge, no deposit required and no size or weight limit for pets staying at Kimpton Margot Sydney. Just let staff know you’re bringing a pet ahead of time and you’ll get pet amenities in your room, a Spotify pet playlist and a concierge’s list of pet-friendly restaurants in the area.
Manly Pacific
Manly Pacific received a $30 million refurbishment, reopening in January this year as an MGallery (it was previously a Novotel). It now features a rooftop pool, custom lobby scent and chic, coastal interiors by Coco Republic. And, in April 2023, five of its 213 rooms were designated to be pet-friendly. The ocean-facing rooms are equipped with a pet bed, water bowls and feature a 100sqm sun terrace your pooch will no doubt love playing on.
Crystalbrook Albion
Crystalbrook Albion in Surry Hills welcomes cats and dogs to its ground-floor rooms, conveniently equipped with hardwood floors and direct access outside. Each pet gets its own soft bed and, of course, food and water are also provided. Bringing one or several pets will set you back $95 per room.
202 Elizabeth
Hidden behind discrete doors on Elizabeth Street, 202 Elizabeth opened in February 2023. It has 38 rooms across six levels, many with balconies. The hotel is adults-only (16+), pet-friendly (no extra charge) and aims to bring the outdoors in with Australian artists and designers showcased on every corner. Pets get a treat on arrival, pet bed and are welcome to hang on the hotel’s rooftop.
Langham Sydney
With Langham Sydney’s Pampered Pets Staycation, pets are the star of the show. They’ll get an afternoon tea welcome amenity and a gift bag, as well as breakfast the following morning in bed (don’t worry – you’ll get served, too). The $120 pet fee is always waived for the first pet.
Ace Hotel
Located on Wentworth Ave, steps from Oxford Street, Hyde Park and Central Station, Ace Hotel Sydney is housed in what once was a brick factory. Today, it has two restaurants, Kiln and Loam, a fitness centre and free use of bikes. It’s $120 per pet, with a two-dog max, and you just have to sign a liability waiver upon check-in. Pet-friendly comes with pet beds, as well as food and water bowls atop a slobber-proof silicone mat.
