Rob Lowe is Hosting a ‘Parks and Recreation’ Podcast Because He Is Literally the Greatest

In what is literally the best news to come out of this week, Parks and Recreation fans will soon be able to revisit their favourite episodes of the beloved series with none other than Chris Traeger himself aka Rob Lowe.

Cleverly titled Parks and Recollection, Lowe has teamed up with series writer Alan Yang to recap episodes from the show which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The pair will also reveal behind-the-scenes moments and interview cast members such as Chris Pratt, Fred Armisen, and Ben Schwartz.

The podcast is co-produced by Conan O’Brien’s podcast and digital media company Team Coco and Stitcher, with episodes set to launch on September 14. Team Coco has previously collaborated with Lowe on another of his podcasts, Literally! With Rob Lowe — an homage to his relentlessly upbeat Parks and Rec character.

The rewatch podcast game is going strong at the moment with other offerings including The Office Ladies with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey and The OC’s Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clark podcast Welcome to the OC, Bitches!

Parks and Recreation followed the adventures of small-town government employee Leslie Knope, who is always determined to make life better for the residents of Pawnee, Indiana — even though it’s the world’s most thankless task. At the same time, she is tasked with trying to keep her unruly colleagues in check, such as the endlessly macabre April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza), the sweet but dim-witted Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) and her Government-hating Libertarian boss Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman).

Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, Retta, Jim O’Heir and Adam Scott round out the main cast with guest stars including Megan Mullally (Offerman’s real-life spouse), Andy Samberg, Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Justin Theroux and Keegan-Michael Key.

Shot in the mockumentary style that was all the rage, the series was co-created by Michael Schur who has also brought us The Office (US version), Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place. Schur is currently in the process of adapting the 1989 Kevin Costner film Field of Dreams into a TV series that will “reimagine the mixture of family, baseball, Iowa and magic that makes the movie so enduring and beloved.”
