As the cost of living continues to rise, Optus is throwing its hat into the ring and raising the cost of its phone plans. Customers on older postpaid phone plans will soon be hit with a $4 increase on their monthly bill, but the good news is that they’ll get substantially more data with it.
So, if you’ve been with Optus for a while, you might soon be paying more each month. But who exactly will be impacted?
The price increase appears to only be coming for customers who signed up for Optus Choice and Plus Promo plans before May 3, 2021. Anyone who signed up since then will continue paying their current price.
Effectively, that means that customers on Optus’ old $39 plan will now pay $43. With the extra data allowances to offset the price rise, they’ll also get an additional 20GB of data.
The $49 plan will now cost $53 and come with 80GB, and the $59 plan will now cost $63 and come with 160GB.
The increase will bring these plans almost in line with Optus’ current plans, although they’re still marginally cheaper. We’re talking $2 cheaper a month but hey, every dollar counts!
If you’re really not keen on spending more on your phone bill, here’s a selection of budget plans powered by the Optus network with at least 20GB:
And if you’re open to switching to the Telstra or Vodafone network, here are your options:
The cheapest plan is Circles.Life’s 30GB Monthly Plan for $14. Note that this is a special price for new customers and the plan reverts to $25 after six months. But you’ll also get a bonus 10GB each month for the first six months, bringing the plan up to 40GB.
The Optus price increase will come into effect from August 8, so you’ve still got a bit of time to shop around for a new phone plan.
