If there’s one thing that the streaming community does well, it’s bringing people together.
There’s nothing like talking about your favourite show over a coffee in the morning, or what you binged over the weekend to bring your friends even closer together and in some cases — find others who share your enthusiasm for true crime or Spanish dramas (me).
Even during these times of social distancing and self-isolation, streaming giant Netflix has found a way to bring everyone together and the best part of all is that you can do it from the comfort of your own home.
Netflix Party was created for people to watch shows with their friends online.
The Google Chrome extension is only available on browsers on desktop or laptop computers and synchronises video playback while adding group chat to your favourite shows.
According to the website, there is already 500,000 people using Netflix Party, hosting long-distance movie nights and TV watch parties. Genius.
How it Works
Firstly, you need to install Netflix Party by adding the extension to your Google Chrome.
Then, you open any show you’d like to watch and start playing the video.
To create your party, you click on the “NP” icon on your address bar, click “start party” and then send the URL link to your friends and family.
It’s so easy and yet so effective!
Right now, Netflix Party feels incredibly necessary and while it will never beat being in the same room as your friends, it’s sure is a great alternative option.
