Make Your Next Movie Night More Memorable With These Titles and a Touch of Luxury

Movies coming out in 2021

We all deserve some time to ourselves now and again. Whether it’s a night away from the kids, a few hours to unwind from work or just taking the time to do something we enjoy for the sake of our mental health, taking time out is a necessary part of modern life.

It will probably come as no surprise that, here at The Latch, we are big film fans and love the overall experience of going to a cinema to enjoy a captivating story with a bunch of strangers. What’s even better is the fact that you have no choice but to put your phone on silent once those lights go down, so your work emails/annoying texts/robocalls can wait. Heaven!

After a year like 2020, it has never felt more luxurious and special to be able to take a trip to the movies and we have discovered the key to making those movie nights even more memorable.

If you’ve ever been to a Hoyts cinema and seen people enjoying the recliner seats but figured you couldn’t justify the extra cash, we are here to happily tell you that no extra money needs to change hands! That’s right, those Hoyts extra-comfy recliners are the same price as regular seats so you can treat yourself to a luxury experience for no extra charge.

The recliners allow you to enjoy extra legroom, wider seating and extra comfort — for the exact same price as a regular seat, so why not sit back, relax and recline (and, of course, indulge in a choc top) while you take in one of these epic films coming soon to Hoyts across Victoria.

Black Widow

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.

Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broker relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melinda.

The Suicide Squad

DC’s most beloved misfits are back in the follow up to 2016’s The Suicide Squad.

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment?

Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favourite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.

The Suicide Squad stars Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, John Cena as Peacemaker, comedian Pete Davidson as Blackguard and Sylvester Stallone as the voice of King Shark. Meanwhile, Jai Courtney returns as Captain Boomerang and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be a milestone in Marvel history, signalling the first time the studio has delivered a superhero flick with an Asian lead — a huge step forward for onscreen representation for the often overlooked community.

Starring Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, alongside Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng, the movie tells the story of Shang-Chi, who has been trained as an assassin since childhood by the Ten Rings terror organisation.

Having escaped the clutches of the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi tries his best to assimilate back into society and live a normal life but finds himself being drawn back into the organisation.

In addition to featuring a beautifully diverse cast, the film will also celebrate martial arts — a skill that Liu trained extensively to master for his role.

No Time to Die

It feels like we have waited a lifetime for the next instalment in the 007 franchise after No Time to Die was repeatedly pushed back due to the complexities of the pandemic.

However, the wait is very nearly over with the Daniel Craig led film finally due to hit theatres in September.

In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

The film stars Craig (in his final outing as 007) along with Billy Magnussen, Ralph Fiennes, Léa Seydoux, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Rami Malek, David Dencik, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch and Dali Benssalah.

Eternals

In another huge milestone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Eternals will be an epic celebration of inclusion and diversity with Lauren Ridloff playing Makkari — the first deaf superhero in the MCU, and Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos — the first openly gay superhero.

Meanwhile, director Chloé Zhao is only the second-ever woman in history to win an Academy Award for best director, taking home the coveted prize for Nomadland at the 2021 Oscars.

The upcoming MCU feature follows an immortal alien race, called the Eternals, who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years. The heroes possess different powers and abilities, including super strength and the ability to fly.

Eternals also features a huge all-star cast including, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Dong-seok Ma, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh and Lauren Ridloff.
