Married at First Sight will return in 2021 with a whole new batch of lovelorn singles hoping to find “the one.”
In the latest trailer released by Channel Nine, brides and grooms are seen in and around Sydney train stations in scenes inspired by 90’s film Sliding Doors.
MAFS executive producer John Walsh explained that the commercial is supposed to convey “the idea that sometimes our lives can be sent down entirely different paths just through the tiniest quirks of fate in our daily lives like missing a train.”
So, what else do we know so far about MAFS 2021? Here’s the roundup:
Who…is in the Cast?
The Wash had previously given us a taste of who was going to be walking down the aisle, reporting that singer Booka Nile, radio host Bryce Ruthven, TV host Georgia Fairweather, former AFL player Jake Edwards, F45 trainer Liam Cooper and Instagram fitness model Connie Stedman would all be taking part. Now, the same publication has leaked the remaining rumoured contestants who are as follows:
Samantha Janyne Harvey, a single mum a business owner, Brett Helling who loves ramen (he’s an enigma that one), Melbournian hairdresser Jo Todd, bodybuilder and philanthropist Cameron Dunne, luxury car salesman Jake Sulser, Queensland teacher Alana Sinead Lister, music festival lover Jason Engler, Perth food blogger Beck Zemeck (perhaps a perfect match for our ramen lover?), psychology student Beth Moore and Melbourbian mystery woman Belinda Vickers.
What…Will Be Different?
While the experiment itself is likely to remain largely the same, as will the drama, one difference we can expect is in the line up of experts.
John Aiken and Mel Schilling will return for season eight but Dr Trisha Stratford will not. Instead certified clinical sexologist Alessandra Rampolla will be stepping in to guide the couples through their ups and downs.
Where…Will it All Go Down?
As seen in the trailer, Sydney will once again be the setting for the marital experiment with the infamous dinner parties continuing to be filmed at a warehouse in Lilyfield and the couples shacking up in an apartment complex in the CBD. Given the restrictions that have been in place most of the year thanks to COVID-19, it remains to be seen if the couples were able to travel outside of the state for family meetings or honeymoons.
Why…Are the Couples Taking Part?
It’s no secret that reality television and social media success have become intrinsically linked, with scores of dating show contestants going to find lucrative hustles as influencers once their shows have ended. However, Channel Nine has repeatedly stressed that the upcoming season is truly all about finding love, not fame. Okaaaayyyy.
When… Do the Fireworks Begin?
MAFS will premiere on Monday, February 22 at 7.30 pm on Channel 9, and if you happen to miss an ep, 9Now have you covered.
Based on previous seasons, we can assume the series will air Monday to Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on Channel Nine. Prior to that, we also have the hotly anticipated MAFS All-Star reunion to look forward to, which has apparently already had its fair share of drama. Shocker.
