Whether it’s to celebrate a special occasion, or you’re simply in the mood to treat yourself, luxury accommodation is an obvious choice. Fortunately, if you’ve got your eyes set on Victoria as the destination, you won’t be short on options.
From spa resorts, where you don’t have to set foot off-property your entire stay, to a boutique spot along the Great Ocean Road where every corner is Instagram fodder, and others in Melbourne’s CBD, ahead is what we currently consider to be the best luxury accommodation in Victoria.
Lon Retreat and Spa, Point Lonsdale
Lon Retreat and Spa in the Bellarine Peninsula encompasses seven suites — with names like Nimbus, Alto, and Stratus — and a mineral spa. Spend your time here swimming in the heated, mineral waters of the retreat’s indoor pool, snorkelling off the beach behind the property and wandering the on-site farm with a picnic hamper to set up in the middle of a forest or along a lake.
Jackalope, Mornington Peninsula
Jackalope is easily one of the most known hotels in the Mornington Peninsula. It’s a place to indulge, with in-room spa treatments to book and a chocolate welcome as an optional add-on. Choose from suites called ‘Lairs’, rooms with vineyard views from the bath or terrace rooms that look out over the fields. The hotel also has art installations and works throughout, as well as a spa with face and body treatments.
Lancemore Lindenderry Red Hill, Red Hill
Set on nearly 14 hectares of gardens and vines and with just 40 rooms, Lancemore Lindenderry Red Hill in the Mornington Peninsula is ideal for a private getaway. Its interiors fuse European country style with modern Australian, and in addition to its rooms, it also houses a restaurant, cellar door and a handful of guest lounges, all with fireplaces.
Drift House, Port Fairy
Drift House sits along the Great Ocean Road, a boutique hotel in a historic bluestone terrace and an adjacent Edwardian villa with just six suites. The focuses here are on sustainability, with efforts to save water and energy and support local businesses, and design. One of the co-founders is an artist and suites are styled with neutrals and pops of colour — think a green couch and yellow door — with no two the same.
The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne, Melbourne
After years of construction, The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne finally opened on Lonsdale Street in the CBD in March 2023. Guests check in on the 80th floor where they’re greeted with views of Marvel Stadium and the Yarra River. The floor is also where one of the hotel’s restaurant two restaurants, Atria, is located. On the 64th floor, you’ll find the hotel’s infinity pool and spa, which offers body treatments, facials and massages.
The Royce Hotel, Melbourne
The Royce Hotel on grand boulevard St Kilda Road opened in March 2023. It houses 94 rooms in its heritage building, once a Rolls Royce showroom, hence its name. Included in the hotel’s 94 guest rooms are 18 uniquely-designed suites, many of which offer balconies with views of the CBD and Shrine of Remembrance, and some which have freestanding baths. Six two-storey loft-suites feature the original cornicing from the days when they were home to the Rolls Royce mechanic workshop.
Five Acres, Phillip Island
Five Acres is set on a two-hectare working farm on Phillip Island and has just three stand-alone cabins, each with their own personality. After taking in the views over Western Port Bay on a stroll around the property, head back to your cabin to soak in its handcrafted, concrete bath, right outside its door. Then, dry off and curl up in front of a log fire inside, as you graze on a platter and sip a locally-made wine.
