When Jennifer Aniston joined Instagram on October 15 2019, not only did the world lose their collective minds, but she quite simply, broke the internet.
Posting exactly what the people wanted — a full Friends cast reunion photo — Aniston subsequently broke a Guinness World Record title for the fastest time to reach one million followers — five hours and sixteen minutes.
Then the following day, Aniston posted a hilarious video, thanking her fans for the “kind glitchy welcome”.
“I swear I didn’t mean to break it…” she captioned the post, which at the time of publication, has garnered over an impressive 28 million views.
Since her debut on the platform, the 50-year-old has over 23 million followers and has posted everything from a seriously cute #TBT, to an epic throwback of Rachel Green from the infamous prom episode of Friends, and some behind-the-scenes footage from her breakout hit, The Morning Show with Reese Witherspoon.
When their show was nominated for a Golden Globe, Aniston posted a video starring her and her co-star, captioning the post: “The Green sisters on the internet this morning like… ?? Congrats to entire @themorningshow family!! @goldenglobes” (Of course, who could forget Witherspoon’s cameo as Rachel’s bratty younger sister Jill?)
At the time of publication, the post had been viewed more than 11 million times.
But, what is it about Aniston’s posts that are just so damn popular?
It’s all about the content.
Most recently, giving the fans more of what they crave, Aniston posted another reunion photograph with her 90s sitcom co-stars Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow.
Within the first hour, the post had already been ‘liked’ by 2.5 million people and rising — which for The Murder Mystery actress, is not an anomaly.
In fact, every single time Aniston posts to the social media platform, millions of fans interact. I mean, imagine if she gave the people what they really wanted – one with Brad Pitt…
During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, back in October, Aniston revealed the reason she decided to jump on board the Instagram train.
“That’s crazy, this thing, huh?” she told DeGeneres, after she told her about her world record.
“It was just one of those things. Eventually — it’s not going anywhere, right? So why not join the party? And it’s not that scary. [You can] share information, connect with your fans, right wrongs that are said about you, have fun, make fun of yourself, make fun of people. Help animals get rescued,” she said.
During the interview, Aniston was asked about a Friends reboot, to which she said “no”.
“We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”
Now, if we could just have a Brad Pitt photo AND a Friends reunion, please and thank you.
