It’ll be that much cheaper to get an iPhone, Apple announced at an event overnight. The tech giant shared that it’ll be dropping its most affordable iPhone yet, an updated version of the iPhone SE. Pre-orders will be available this Saturday, March 12 and it will be released in stores and online on Friday, March 18.
The new iPhone SE will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models and will come in three colours; midnight, starlight and (PRODUCT)RED, starting at $719. This is the first update to the iPhone SE in nearly two years, and a steep discount from the iPhone 13, released last September.
“iPhone SE has been an incredibly popular choice with our existing users and for new iPhone customers, thanks to its iconic design, exceptional performance and affordable price,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.
“This year we’ve built the most powerful and durable iPhone SE yet, with better battery life thanks to A15 Bionic, the same chip as our iPhone 13 line-up that also unlocks advanced camera features like Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles and Deep Fusion.”
Another important new feature is the iPhone SE’s ability to use 5G, also a feature of the iPhone 13. Though 5G networks, which allow for faster downloads and uploads, higher-quality video streaming and real-time interactivity in apps, are still not widely available, the new feature on the iPhone 13 prompted many iPhone users to upgrade.
Aside from the new iPhone SE, Apple also unveiled a new green colour for its iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, as well new desktop versions of its personal computer called the Mac Studio, which can be paired with a 5K monitor called Studio Display. The company also unveiled the latest version of its iPad Air with 5G Support and an M1 chip that’s 10 times more powerful than the latest desktop chip.
