Imagine: A joyride where stopping’s for pigeons. Where you whizz past petrol station after petrol station. Where you pause when you want to, not when you have to. Where your car has a 1,000km range.
Now, this hypothetical might be Australia’s future. What’s more, this future might be powered by electricity, rather than fossil fuels. This is because 1,000km EV batteries have gone from being a dream to a reality.
At an expo called Auto Shanghai, a tech company plugged such a product. On stage, Chinese Amperex Technology Limited (CATL) launched its condensed EV batteries.
“Today, we are proud to present a technological innovation that fully meets the needs of our customers,” said CATL’s Vice President, Kai Wu. “And marks the beginning of a new era of innovation for CATL: The CATL condensed batteries, which boasts an energy density of 500Wh/kg.”
“We believe that condensed batteries will have a positive and far-reaching impact on achieving carbon neutrality, providing support for our pursuit of a cleaner, more environmentally friendly future.”
As it stands, the average petrol-powered car can travel 482 km on one tank of juice. Therefore, if CATL’s tech gets mass-adopted, there’ll be one less reason to buy a fossil fuel churner.
Wu said, “We are able to mass produce it in a short period of time, so as to meet the needs of customers.”
However, CATL’s condensed EV battery future isn’t a guarantee. This is because CATL didn’t announce any collabs during their Auto Shanghai presentation.
So, with this in mind, car companies, it’s time to make some dealios. And if not with CATL, then some other battery innovators. ‘Cause range anxiety needs to perish. The sooner this happens, the sooner I can joyride away.
