You Should Drive to the Dromana 3 Drive-In This Weekend — Here’s Why

About 50km south of Melbourne, on Mornington’s Peninsula, there’s a piece of treasure. And that treasure is called the Dromana 3 Drive-In, an old fashioned drive-in cinema. That’s right, it’s a joint where you can enjoy a movie from the comfort of your very own car.

What’s more, the Dromana 3’s old-school sensibilities transcend just parking your car in front of a screen. You’ll also have to tune your radio to the right frequency to score the movie’s sound. Yup, just like it’s the 1950s.

“The sound for the movies is through your FM car Radio,” said the Dromana 3 Drive-In. “A portable radio will also work very well… You cannot stream the audio via the internet.”

But what happens if you don’t have a car? Can you still enjoy the charms of this drive-in? Actually, yes. The Dromana 3 Drive-In allows you to fill a car spot with a picnic blanket and some chairs. However, when doing this, you’re not allowed to take up multiple car spots.

Now, if all sounds too good to be true, don’t panic. ‘Cause this joint has some decent reviews on Tripadvisor.

As one patron wrote, “Well worth stopping by for a nice little offbeat experience. I hadn’t been to a drive-in for a very long time, so whilst in the area, I leapt at the chance. I went to see John Wick 4. I had no problems tuning into the sound, they play 50s music before the movie starts.”

Furthermore, the Dromana 3 Drive-In serves up some grub if you get hungry during flick. They have a joint onsite called Shel’s Diner. Like the drive-in itself, this diner is inspired by the 1950s. It features a pinball machine, a jukebox, the works.

But what about the food itself? Well, that’s also a vibe. They serve hot dogs, burgers, milkshakes, doughnuts, and other snacks that will pair the wizardry of cinema. If you want to book some Dromana 3 Drive-In tickets, then click the link right here.
