It shouldn’t be a surprise that we are searching for venue and travel inspiration differently. In July 2022, Google said it had found almost 40% of young people, when they were looking for a place for lunch, weren’t going to Google Maps or Search – they were going to TikTok or Instagram.
Other data from the US found that nearly 1 in 3 travellers were turning to social media for holiday inspiration, with 60% of Gen Zs and 40% of millennials admitting they used social media for travel purposes. In other words, when younger generations are looking for where to go, the stat proves again they’re turning to TikTok or Instagram.
With that in mind, we’re sharing some of the top trending weekend destinations outside Melbourne according to TikTok. The data was pulled together by car-rental company Budget, which looked at the top-trending destinations on the app.
From popular spots, including the Great Ocean Road and Mornington Peninsula, to the lesser-known, like Fairy Cove and Wilson’s Prom, these are the top Melbourne getaways on TikTok.
