If you’re not joining the Euro summer migration, or have any other upcoming trips planned, chances are you’re itching for a holiday — especially if you live on the East Coast and have been subjected to torrential day in and day out.
Now, you’ve got even more incentive to choose Far North Queensland for that destination as, aside from its sun and being home to a li’l ol’ UNESCO World Heritage site called the Great Barrier Reef, it’s also $100 cheaper to get to.
Announced on Monday, July 11, Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TNQ) will be offering $100 flight subsidies for interstate visitors, in a bid to get 50,000 extra visitors up there over the next four months and give the regional economy a $14 million in visitor spend boost.

CEO of TNQ Mark Olsen said the subsidy would be available from July 11 until Monday, August 1, or until the campaign sells out, and can be used towards flights on any airline to Cairns during the period July 11 until November 20 and bought through Webjet. No blackout periods apply.
“We have seen many first-timers arrive in Cairns this year, and others who have not visited in more than a decade and they have been wowed by the maturity of the destination and its extraordinary array of world-class experiences,” said Olsen in a release.
“This is bringing a new wave of advocates for a Tropical North Queensland holiday who realise that a week is nowhere near enough time to explore the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s oldest rainforest and the accessible outback.”
Olsen said airport passenger numbers had reached more than 94,000 in the week starting June 27 when East Coast states were on school holidays. The number had eclipsed pre-pandemic levels by almost 4,000 passengers.
This $100 subsidy, part of the national government’s Recovery for Regional Tourism program, is to continue domestic visits to the region over the next two months until the next school holidays.
With Olsen predicting the sale would sell out quickly due to strong demand, you’ll want to get in quick with it. Shop the flight sale to Cairns here.
