Why Is Batman One of the Most Popular Superheroes of All Time?

Batman

He’s not faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and can’t leap tall buildings in a single bound. In fact, he’s got no superpowers at all so how is The Caped Crusader one of the most popular superheroes of all time?

First and foremost, it’s got to do with the previously mentioned fact — Batman has no superpowers. He’s a mere mortal, no different to you and I, making him relatable and dare I say it, attainable.

Yes, there’s no doubt every Batman fan has thought to themselves: ‘If I did enough push-ups, I could lead the Justice League into battle, saving the world from superhuman evil.’

The fascination with bats doesn’t stop there.

The Dark Knight created the original and greatest man cave.

Sure, it doesn’t have a pool table, but it’s decked out with enough screens to watch every sport in the world simultaneously, so you can see all your multis fail at once.

Parked in the Batcave is the one and only Batmobile. A custom-made vehicle that roars, fires missiles and jumps from building to building — no need to worry about peak hour traffic anymore, you beauty!

The Dark Knight’s colour scheme is black and who doesn’t look good in black? It’s badass!

Boys notoriously love their toys and Batman has every gadget a bloke could wish for. He’s got a gizmo for every situation because who knows when you’ll need shark repellent?

Batman has a strict no-kill policy, which is very admirable. No matter how off the charts crazy his enemies are, Batman chooses to lock them up. It’s an ethical way to live and we respect him for it.

Need I mention that the man under the mask is billionaire, Bruce Wayne?

He’s got enough money to buy his own sports team, which is practically every man’s dream. Admittedly he had to witness the gruesome bloody murder of his parents to inherit the fortune BUT imagine owning a sports team?! I can see it now — The Melbourne Danes.

In The Dark Knight, Bruce uses his wealth to buy the entire Russian Ballet and sails the sea with them, leading to my next point- he always gets the girl.

Batman aka Bruce Wayne is incredibly complex and mysterious, making him seemingly irresistible to women. Vicki Vale, Catwoman and Batgirl are just a few of many who have fallen for his brooding yet seductive charm. Bruce is a true Casanova and comic book fans idolize him for it.

Yep, it’s a classic case of women want him, and men want to be him that makes Batman one of, if not the most popular superhero ever created.

Experience Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher’s original Batman series on the big screen again from August 21, and let’s swoon over The Caped Crusader on a 20ft screen. Only at HOYTS.
