All the BTS Shooting Secrets That Make ‘Alone Australia’ Special

Behind the scenes of Alone Australia

SBS

Alone Australia: A show that seems pretty easy to make. All you have to do is strand 10 Aussies in the wilderness with limited resources, and wait until all but one gives up. Seems rather simple, right?

Wrong! Not only is Alone Australia logistically complicated to produce, it’s also rather dangerous. Behind the scenes, so much time, effort, and money goes into making this series successful.

According to the studio behind Alone Australia, ITV Studios, they’re constantly working to make this series and its scenes more dramatic and engaging. As their Chief Content Officer Beth Hart explained in a press statement, they’ve even moved filming from the shores of Tasmania to achieve this ambitious goal.

“This year, we have upped the ante,” Beth said. “ITV Studios Australia is truly excited for Season 2 to be unveiled, as this year’s participants face the fiercest challenge yet in the breathtaking but brutal South Island of New Zealand. The nail-biting stories, ten new survivalists, and extreme conditions will not disappoint.”

If you want some behind the scenes details about Alone Australia, then we have got you sorted. Here’s what we know about Alone Australia’s 2024 production.

Alone Australia’s Team Is on High-Alert

On Alone Australia, the crew doesn’t want anyone to freeze to death, drown, or die in any other way for that matter. For this reason, the crew asks each contestant to regularly message them from a SAT phone.

However, in the trailer for Alone Australia 2024, one of the contestants suddenly becomes unreachable. This prompts the crew to assume there’s an emergency and send a boat to look for them. Alone Australia takes its behind the scenes precautions very seriously, and this moment proves it.

Factoids Are Added in Post-Production

Alone Australia 2024 was filmed on New Zealand’s South Island, also known as Aotearoa’s Te Waipounamu. Due to this area being Ngāi Tahu land, Alone Australia will have factoids about this tribe pop up during each episode. These factoids will explain how the Ngāi Tahu people take care of this land and thrive in it.

The fact that Alone Australia is providing its audience with educational info about the Ngāi Tahu people demonstrates that they care about how this culture and land is represented. Such efforts take a lot of behind the scenes time and research. Time and research that elevates this show to be more than just survivalist TV.

Alone Australia returns to us all on Wednesday, March 27 on SBS and SBS on Demand. Miss an episode? Catch up with SBS on Demand.
